Screaming doggie! Staszny has only been around 1 other dog consistently, my sister's beagle, when I bring him home to visit. THey play so well together, the beagle puts up with a lot, and knows that Straszny is smaller so he has to be gentle. My question is what to do about his sudden outburts that happen sometimes. Not all dogs (or people) will like that. Straszny will SCREAM and almost snarl...WHILE he is playing! It is like he doesnt realize what out of control behavior this is. WHen he really doesnt like something and doesnt get his way, like if he wants down to see the beagle, and we are leaving or someting, he FREAKS OUT! He doesnt ever get aggressive besides the noises he makes. He doesnt bite. (besides the play biting that we are working on) He is great when people come in my apartment, he doesn't bark or anything..he just rolls over in submission! ;) I am jsut afraid that if I dont get him under control he will just get worse, in those specific situations! |
Keep on giving him positive reinforcement. When he does the scream/snarl, try to get him to be quiet, and throw in a small treat when he does. If he can associate the being quiet command with getting a treat, he may learn to be quiet when you command him to. He's quite the cute little guy! :) |

When my Yorkie was very young - 8 to 12 weeks, he played that way with everything. He would growl, snarl, whimper, bark, and make all sorts of noises with his toys. I thought it was fascinating and wondered where all those sounds came from. It was really as though he was practicing making different sorts of noises. (Yorkies are very vocal - you know). But, anyway, he has outgrown a lot of this. He plays just as hard, but guess he has decided that a lot of the noises he was practicing - just aren't necessary. He is a total terror (at 6 months and 6 1/2 pounds) to my 21-pound Bichon. He literally wears him out. Thank God I have a gentle Bichon. He just puts up with it. If your pup isn't being aggressive or biting - maybe you don't have to worry about all the noises he makes. He may just be discovering his "voice." He'll settle down. Carol Jean |
I don't think there is much to be done. Ruby gets really excited and loud also when we got to the vet. She wants everyone to look at her and payn attention and if they don't she barks at them until she gets her way. I just put her down and let her go greet everyone. :thumbup: |
