Ear Question OK, Trixie has had upright ears every since we got her. Around Nov/Dec when we had the puppies at the house, I put off having her groomed, the hair on her ears got long and one started to flop down. (I didn't want to cut the hair myself--I didn't want to hack her up! ) She would still have them both up if she heard something or you were fixing her food or something, but it wasn't up constantly like the other. So when we had her groomed the end of Dec, they lady didn't tip out her ears because she didn't think I wanted them done....no problem, she was new, first time we'd used her. So last week, she got groomed again and we had her ears cut short, but the one ear has not come back up yet. :( She didn't cut them as short as I would have liked, but my brain tells me if it's short enough for one to stand, the other should too? Has anyone had this happen before? Do I need to go ahead and have the hair cut shorter, give it time? It's up more than it was, but still not completely...any suggestions? :) |
When Athena was a pup , I always shaved her ears completely until they were strong enough to stand by themselves . |

Just an update, in case anyone's interested. I cut the hair short on the flopping down ear today and within an hour, it was right back standing up with the other one. :) |
Good News......... :) WHOOOO-HOOOOOO, good job! |
Hurray! I have also heard you can massage the ears to make them stand. |
I was wondering about this, too. I just got Bobby this week and he's 6 months old. It's obvious no one has worked with his ears at all. He pulls up his ears when he's playing and sometimes just for the heck of it but they flop down a lot. I have been massaging his ears because I read you should do that but an attendant in the vet's office said it's probably too late. It does seem to help, though, and he sure does enjoy it! :) He has LOTS of fur on his ears so would it help to have his ears trimmed or shaved? Would taping at this age work? Thanks! Julie |
IMO If you keep the hair off both ears, in time they will go back up again. I don't know anything about taping ears. I've never needed to do it. |
