Totally Intrigued and Have A Question? I was browsing this site and Have a question. They have to females (Calli and Daisy) with beautiful dark rich colors. These girls have a rich tan and black coats. I have noticed that all yorkies with this specific coat color that red and deep tend to not grow coats as long and they tend to be on the wirey side. Those anyone know why this happens? Just curious I love their color but would like to know the reasoning for this. Here is the link www.gardenyorkies.com/MeetMyFlowerGirls.html  |
Does anyone have info? |
Absolutely no idea, sorry. But it's an interesting question, will be curious to hear some better informed answers. |
I have no idea but would love to know as my Pippa is this colour too :D |
The dark yorkies tend to be cottony or wooly coats and they mat, and break off very easy. I have a pair of siblings that have that type of coat, and in seven years I had never cut the hair, yet it was not even to the floor. I finally got to where I cut them into puppy cuts, or snorkie cuts and don't have to worry about brushing out the mats. |
:yeahthat: I agree. I have 2 dark girls and I keep them in a puppy cut. Have you noticed how the hair does not absorb water like the silks? Also takes longer to dry. |
Wow, they have really pretty colors. Love the darker red. But you can tell that their hair is more wirey. I would love to have those colors PLUS the real silky coat. The description on Daisy says that she's real silky but she looks more wirey in those pictures. Very pretty though! |
Jasmine is 7 months old. She has turned very silver and around her face, legs, etc has turned a light blonde or gold color. Her hair is very long but thin. It is silky and straight and does not mat. My granddaughters Yorkie (who is staying with me now) is exactly the same age. They were actually born on the same day, but we bought them from different breeders. Murphy is still very reddish brown around face & legs, etc, and black. He is just now starting to get a little tiny bit of silver on his head. His hair is very thick and much coarser than Jasmine's. Very straight, almost wiry. His hair is quite a bit shorter than hers. It is just now starting to grow. I love his color. I like the reddish and black. Jasmine is quite a lot smaller than him and has a much shorter body. Murphy is sort of long in the body. Jasmine is much more delicate boned. She has small ears that have always stood up. She has a pretty face. His ears are bigger and one stands up all the time but the other wants to flop over. His face is so cute though. He has big brown sad eyes. She is a little ball of fire. Very feisty. She loves everyone. He is very laid back. A real lover boy. Kind of shy They are both very beautiful, but look so different looking. People have asked me if they are both Yorkies. |
I've been told by hair stylists that the red color is the largest color molecule. Human redheads tend to have coarser hair than other colors. The coarser, thicker strand is necessary to hold the red color molecule. This is why when people who are not natural redheads color their hair red, it tends to fade out more quickly than other colors. Their hair strand cannot hold onto the larger molecule. I have no idea if this is true or not, but it seems to make sense. You may be able to do some research to find out. |
My mom and step-mom are both redheads and they definitely have coarser hair - surely takes longer to dry. My mom is more strawberry-blonde so it's not as coarse but my step-mom's hair is pretty difficult. She uses a wonderful hair-straightening shampoo and products that make a huge difference. Wonder if you could do something like that with these "red-head" dogs? I guess the PH balance issue would come into play using human shampoo/products on a dog but I imagine it would work. |
