What type of brush or comb? Mia's hair is getting real long and it is very hard to keep from getting matted, What type of brush or comb do you all use? I want to let her hair grow out. Thanks :) |
I use a boar bristle brush mixed with plastic bristles. It was 4 dollars from Sallys beauty supply. If you buy one, make sure it isnt all boar bristle because its way too soft. Then for any tangles and her face/legs I use a greyhound tooth comb. I was using a #1 all systems metal pin brush but I like the boar bristle brush much better. And its way cheaper. Dont buy a plastic brush with plastic tips which can break the hair off. Also, make sure you never brush the hair when dry and use a grooming spray so it doesnt cause breakage. If you need grooming spray recommendations let us know. |

I would love to know what kind of grooming spray you use. :) |
Chris Christenson makes ice on ice spray which works pretty well. Doesnt smell that great. I also liked Eqyss avocodo spray, its really light and smells yummy. Eqyss makes alot of horse grooming products. I sometimes find it in feed stores. You just need to experiment and see what you like. Some smells you wont like and some will be to heavy and make the coat oily sooner. |
I use a double-sided brush with a pin brush on one side and a bristle brush on the other. Use the pin brush to remove snarls, tangles and unwanted hair then flip to the bristle brush to finish the coat. I also use a pet grooming comb for the face area only and for fixing their top-knots. I bought both of these at Petco - I believe. I think the spray I use is absolutely wonderful and it smells great. It's called Buddy Spray from Cloud Star. It has lavendar & mint in it, along with other all natural herbs & oils - it's a great deodorize for between baths. It also works great as a detangler and actually softens the dog's hair and revitalizes it because there aren't any harsh chemicals. My vet carries it, I think some speciality pet stores do, too. But you can get it online at www.cloudstar.com I also love their Buddy Wash shampoo - it lasts a long time and has similar ingredients to the spray. My dogs smell great, and I gave some out as a Christmas gift and everyone loves it! |
I use a slicker comb, rat tail comb, metal pin brush, flea comb, coat rake, etc... |
I'm with yorkiesmiles. It's a great combination brush. Mitzi is getting hair is getting longer everyday. She's not a tangly dog, it's easy to brush her. But the thickness is the thing. :D |
