Need information about Anesthesia for Yorkies Can anyone help me out??? I am going to have my Penny spayed and i was wondering if being as small as yorkies are, if they need a certain Anesthesia... I was told that Isoflorine is the one that should be used for small breeds. Does anyone know for sure??? Thanks |
I always request it and feel very confident in it. I have had no adverse reactions to it. |
My vet uses sevoflourine, which if I'm not mistaken, is just as if not more safe than the iso.... (am I right??) |
Either one, Isoflurene or Sevoflurene are the gases that should be used for toy dogs. They are both good, but I believe that the Sevo is a little more costly. |
I had my little one spayed about a month ago. My Vet uses Isofluorine but I also ask for them to be on an IV drip during the procedure for any of my dogs going under for surgery or teeth cleaning if they are particularly small, ill, or an older dog ie greater than about 5 years old. Apparently the IV will keep them hydrated properly, will reduce surgical trauma and will give a ready line if they have to inject any drugs. |

Also be sure to specify that you do not want barbituates of ANY kind used. It is VERY easy to overdose them, since they are so tiny. I also requested that any residual milk teeth be pulled at the same time she was spayed, that way she didn't have to undergo anethesia twice. GOOD LUCK- she will do great!! |
Thanks all of you for giving me such good advise, I appreciate it greatly... Yes the iv thing is a great idea, and i am also going to get her two baby milk teeth pulled at the same time. Again thanks so much to all of you. Heres some pics of my Penny. |
