I was checking the site to see the approximate age a Yorkie stops growing. Bailey weighed in at 6.6 pounds last week at the vet. The Doctor thought he was between 7 - 8 months old. I'm hoping he rounds out around 8 pounds as he could use a little meat on him. We got rid of the Purina puppy chow and switched to Blue Buffalo puppy food and he's really just so-so on it. Doesn't quite eat his 3/4 cup during the day. We take it up around 9pm. |
I think most finish growing around 6-12 months, but it varies. Rhia was about 4lbs her first year and now at 3.5 is 6lbs. |
My Nico is now almost 7 months in few days and he weights 10.5lb (almost 5kg) He's been eating less since he was 5months and just putting on weight a little. I've seen in the park yorkies which are really big in size. They must be over 12 kg , for sure. I read that castration can cause the grow of the bones as well. He was done couple of weeks ago. He's a perfect size right now, can get on the bed and sofa by himself and playing with bigger dogs is not so dangerous (only with the dog we know)so he will not get hurt etc Funny thing about previous post regarding 'BABY' at 5.5months 3lb and at 2 years 12lb... Kinda strange to pick up so much weight if you only expecting it will gain another pound and in fact it's 10. |

My point is, if your vet isn't used to your breed, they may not be as accurate with weight/size fluctuations in a particular breed. |
They stop "growing" at about 7 months but continue to gain weight. |
My Deserre stopped growing at 7 months. A perfect 7 lber! |
My two filled out just after they turned a year old. |
My Sophie grew longer legs after she turned one. Second year she filled out and she is almost three and we are trying to keep her from becoming "overfilled out":p She loves to eat. |
Nibblet is about 2.5 - 3.0 pounds, and she was a year old in July. Her legs have gotten a little longer, but I don't expect she'll get much bigger. She's a little spitfire!:animal36 |
It's crazy to see that this was started in 2006!! I just took Bentley to the vet and he gained over a pound in a month! He is now 3 lbs at 13 weeks and I'm thinking he might grow up to be on the big side! I wanted him to be around 4-5 lbs but I don't think there's any way that's happening! |
I would think if the charts are right he will be around 6 full grown, which is still a very small dog. |
I kept records of Keno's weight at each vet visit. They are as follows: 4.8 12 weeks, 6.0 16 weeks , 9.5 25 weeks, 12.8 12 months, 14.8 15 months and finally yesterday 14.6 23 months. |

Chandler you probably would get more answers if you start a new thread :) this one is very old. Laddy our male put on about a pound after he was that age. Its hard to tell with these little ones. Kyra has stayed the same weight since she was 6 months and will be a year old in 2 weeks so you just never know. Welcome to YT. |
When do they stop growing in height? Weight can vary I know I have 2 five month old males from same little one is a tiny who is neutered his brother is show prospect got a deal as I'm giving breeding rights to my breeder I'm new to all this he is not just a breeder he is my pet first his needs and happiness come first. Just wondering when they stop getting taller. |
Stella was 1 lb 12 oz at 12 weeks She turned 1 yr old on the 5th and now weighs 3 lbs 12 oz. So from age 3 months to 12 months she gained exactly 2 lbs. I love my tiny girl but I do wish she'd fill out a bit. I'm glad to see after age 1 they can still do that. |
My Mia is 5 months old, when I got her a couple of weeks ago she weighed 2.2 lbs. the poor little thing ribs were showing and she had tape worms!! I took her to vet and got her checked and worm medicine.. She is so full of life and now you don't feel her ribs sticking out..poor baby. She weights 3.2 lbs now.. I know she will grow more but hope not too much. |
usually done growing height wise around 6mos but will start to fill out a bit after that |
millie mollie is a 5 month yorkie and rosie is 3 years old, and mollie has taken over rosie in height already will she grow much more as her legs are long compared to rosies |
Keno was 9.5 lbs at 6 months He was 12 inches tall 12.8 lbs at 12 months 14.6 lbs at 24 months 14.0 lbs at 36 months He is 13 inches tall and 13 inches long. |
Very interesting thread! Cherry is almost 7 weeks and is 1lb 15oz. All the charts say she'll be around 6 pounds. We'll see!! |
Sadie Grace Hi. My Sadie is almost 7 months old and she weighs 4.6 pounds. She is very healthy and active. I was just wondering is it normal and ok that she lost 1 1/2 ounces last week. Could it be that she is just lost a little baby fat? |

It's good you are paying attention to her weight. She should continue to grow for a few more months. It will be at a much slower growth rate than the first few months of her life but she will add a little more in size plus muscle and bone. |
Thanks for your reply. I agree, just feels good hearing it from someone else. |
My baby girl just turned a year old on December 10th and she weighs 2.3lbs. I would like it if she gained a little more but she hasn't grown for awhile now. |
My sweet Riley was predicted to be about 7 lbs. When the others in the litter were 2 lbs. he was 3. He ended up 17 lbs, lean, no fat. I never expected that! His parents were about 7 lbs. each. I had many people approach me to ask about his size and to inquire where they could get a Yorkie like Riley. I used to just tell them when he was a puppy, he accidentally got into the Miracle Grow. (You would be amazed at how many looked incredulously at me and sincerely asked, "Oh, really?") |
