Question about papers My breeder just sent me an e-mail that her friend is selling a female yorkie puppy but with no papers. She is purebred though. I am guessing that because her friends are just home breeders both parents might NOT have any papers either. If this is the case, does this mean I cannot get her registered? If both parents have papers, what is the procedure to get the puppy registered. She is 2 lbs right now at 15 weeks and the asking price is $1000.00. I know my husband said NO to another one but right now after telling him about this girl, I think he might change his mind. |
papers Are you talking AKC...in order to register your puppy, all the breeders involved..owner of male and female etc must have papers or infor on their dogs..then if it is only a matter of having never registered dogs who are eligible, then if can be done, but if no one has any papers, can't find them, lost contact with the breeders..then the chances are very slim..AKC will NOT accept anything you say without number and names of parents. $1000 is alot of money, but it would depend on the puppy. At 4 months plus, she should have had all her vet needs done, shots, worming, rabies..etc. If you have to put out another $500 for vet needs, then it begins to add up. I do not know what makes a dog worth the money people pay. There is no guide line...if the puppy is truly what you want in a companion, papers aren't important. A healthy, vet checked puppy is the point here. She is not exceptionally tiny for her age..but will not be much more the 4 to 5 pounds as a rule..but there are exceptions. Best wishes to you. |
thank you so much for your comments. I finally spoke to my breeder and she told me that the dad has papers but the mom never got one so I guess this means the puppy cannot be registered. Yes, I do not really care for papers but I still am interested to know so that I can gauge if the price of the puppy is truly worth it. Of course I will make sure the puppy is up-to-date with her shots as I won't even want to get her. I have also asked if the puppy is somehow related to my Tiger as although I do not plan to breed, I might want more yorkies later on (have to work that out with my hubby first  ). I am totally against in-breeding and therefore I have to make sure about this. As for her size, I think she will be perfect. My Tiger is 4 pounds and seemed to have stopped growing  but because I like to carry him a lot and am really tiny myself, I do want smaller yorkies (definitely NOT teacup size). So, now that she if 4 months at 2 pounds if she does end up being 4-5, that is just perfect for me :) |
I think $1000 is too much to pay for an unpapered yorkie. |
Surprises me that anyone who breeds and sells purebreed puppies - doesn't have them registered. On the other hand, I could get papers for my pup, but he's not going to be shown and will be neutered in a month or two - so, I have decided not to spend the money. I'll buy him clothes and toys instead. *** I have always registered my purebreds in the past, but when I get the papers, I put them in a drawer and then never look at them for years. I finally ask myself, "Why am I doing this?" I think $1000 is a little high for a dog that "can't be registered." BUT at the same time - $1000 certainly isn't too much for a loveable little Yorkie. If you are satisfied that the little pup is a purebred - and don't want to show or breed it - I'm not sure that papers really matter. Good luck - Carol Jean |
I have a question that has to do with papers what is the difference between getting your Yorkie AKC register or UKC? My breeder sent me the paper for UKC? Is one better than the other? Thanks |
