Ahh!! What is going on! 4 Attachment(s) As some of you might have read, my Kiwi has been having problems. I took her to a different vet today (2 days after the last vet visit) who treated her for an skin scraping (turns out to be an ear infection instead of what was previously thought of as mites), anal gland expression(+5), fecal analysis, nail clipping. The vet also said she was in no condition for a breeder to be selling. Basically, the breeder shafted me. More: The vet also told me this dog could be a MORKIE (maltese/yorkie mix) instead of what I paid for, a pure bred toy YORKIE. Additionally, she was shipped from Ireland which is notorious for puppy mills. The breeder lied to me on several occassions. I've attached pictures of Kiwi and another dog that was at the breeder's house. They both look like Morkies. I don't want my Kiwi to get too big. I know it's not her fault. I bought her last week with the intention of her being a toy yorkie, because I live in a small apartment and travel quite a bit. I don't know how else to word this without it seeming like I'm an a**hole, but I think it's unfair for her if she doesn't turn out what we expected her to be. She is the cutest thing right now, but what happens when she gets older? Will she have more health issues? Please don't think I lack any love for this dog, because I absolutely adore her. My Question To You: 1) Do you think these dogs resemble one another? 2) Do you think I should take her back to the breeder, then report the breeder to Animal Control? Or Is it too late to take my stand against puppy mills and bad breeders? |
4 Attachment(s) here is one more picture of Kiwi. The other dog is 7months old. |
Looks yorkie to me :D |
3 Attachment(s) ...more :} She looks like a yorkie sometimes, then looks like a morkie others. Does anyone have a yorkie that looks like her? :) She is said to be 3 months old....hopefully she is =) |
I think she looks all yorkie. Even if she were part maltese, they are small too, so it all depends on how big the parents are??? And even then she could turn out bigger. Do you know how much the parents weigh? If you paid a ton for her and she is a mix, then it isn't fair to you that you didn't get a purebred yorkie, but if you got a good deal on her, I think she's adorable and she won't get any bigger than a yorkie (since maltese dogs are about the same sizes). |
Looks yorkie to me too. And also a breeder can't really say how big the puppy will be. Even if the parents were both small doesnt mean that you will get a small puppy. Kind of like human babies they are all different. There are charts that say the size the puppy will be full grown but still its not a garuntee and only and estimate. |
I don't see the Maltese at all. She looks all yorkie to me. |
also.... it looks like one ear is going up..... maltese ears are down, so I don't know if the ears would go up is she were a morkie??? |

1 Attachment(s) I think my Zoe looked just like her, except with both ears up.... |
Thank you all. I think her ears will go up, both her brother's ears are up already. I really wish I could afford her brother too, I felt so bad seperating her. She was $1,000 |
Well she is a cutie and I think that is a fair price. |

She looks all yorkie to me. The light hair coming in is her new hair. Many people refer to it as their color breaking. Many yorkies get this and it will turn a tan or gold coloring. It may look light and it may stay light?? You never know with yorkies. |
How old is she and what does she weigh right now? |
I'll take her. I want a Morkie! :D |

I agree, she looks yorkie. But the older one, is it just me or does this little guy look so sad?! He is almost pitiful....I just want the pick him up and squeese him and kiss him all over. BTW, both are real cuties. :) |
Looks Yorkie to me The vet shouldn't have said that about the breed. I don't see anything that suggests your dog is a mix. May not be healthy and she looks like she feels under the weather but again vet should not have put in your mind you may have got a mix based on how your dog looks now. I don't know for sure what you mean by a toy yorkie. I thought they were all in toys. If you mean one of those very tiny 2 pound adults I would feel very happy if I were you if your guy gets bigger. Breeders aren't suppose to be breeding for tiny tiny. Standard says up to 7 pounds i believe but I wish they'd add something about them having to be over 3-4 pounds too. good luck |
Yea the other dog is a sweetie. He is not energetic/socialized at all, i doubt the breeder gives him any attention. And apparently he is 3pounds!!! (he's probably 9inches tall!!) Kiwi is 3months old (as we were told, I'm going to ask the vet to guestimate tomorrow after her medicine bath and further check-up) and weighs about 2.2 pounds. |
Joszacs: It was actually the receptionist that said something about the morkie, not the vet. Oh, when I say toy I mean under 7 pounds :} I don't want her to be too small either, as she may have weight problems, but I don't want her above 10 pounds with my lifestyle...Either way, I'm keeping her :] |
With the weight chart guesstimates..... I think you take their weight at 12 wks and times that by 2..... If that's correct, your girl should be a little over 4 lbs.... which is really small!!! But like others have stated, you never can tell for sure. She's just a doll! |
I think the above post is right...I don't think if she weighs only 2.2 lbs now at 12 weeks she should get over 7 lbs. My breeder told me the same thing that they should double at twelve weeks. My puppy is still with the breeder and was exactly 2 lbs at 8 weeks. The breeder has had several litters with this mother and most the puppys have been 5-7 lbs. And she thought our puppy would be 6 lbs...which is what we were hoping for. And like everybody else I see all yorkie. Most of the mixes there is always something that suggest another breed, ears, nose, coat...I don't see anything that doesn't look like most yorkie puppies. :) |

I would not listen to that receptionist. She looks all yorkie to me. |
She looks like a yorkie to me, too! Even if she is a little sick and small due to illness, I bet she will stay below 7#. She is adorable. Sometimes these little guys get a little sick from the move. Ours got kennel cough from the first time I took them in for their vet check. I let them walk on the floor on a leash. I never let any of my babies walk on the floor at the vet anymore. I take them in a carrier. |
Kiwi is such a cutie!!! She looks Yorkie to me, and even if she was a Morkie, she is still adorable and I would keep her. |
