How long? does it take for their coats to fully grow, and coat fully change colors? |
Curious??? I was wondering this same thing myself...anyone? |
I believe it continiues to change colors past a year, Gizmo is 7 months and he has changed colors more than 3 x's... |

aww man i really like the colors i'm seeing in Cash... hopefully if he changes that many times it goes to what he's coloring now lol |
I think it just depends on the dog. Some of them never change color and will always have a cotton coat, black and tan. Some of them get a silky coat, steel blue and tan, which should change by the time they are 1 year old. I gave my Brownie a super short cut in the summer and now she has a full coat again. It's like our hair, some people's hair grows faster and some grow slower. :aimeeyork |
My black and tan puppy totally changed colors by the time he was four months old - he changed to a sliver and very light blond/tan. He is awfully pretty right now. Of course - my pup has been trimmed several times - he is sporting a puppy cut - and the older black and tan hair has long been cut off. His new colors are all that we see now. Keep an eye your puppy's roots - and you'll see any new colors coming in. Carol Jean |
I have read they change colors untill two years. Each yorkies hair grows out at different pacs. My Jewels got a puppy cut at 4 months. Now at a year she has a long coat. |
What I have read is.. they should have their adult coat by 2 years old. Bailey will be 2 in June and is still very dark. |
ok.. thanks for the replies... he seems to be doing the light tan on his body and steel blue in the face... |
I agree that they change up until 2 years....my girls changed to a silver on the head and now that is turning gold/tan!!! I have heard that it can take up to a year for their full coat to grow up, but their coats all grow at different speeds so it may take longer than that!!! |
