ATTENTION RE: Distemper Scare I'm in Houston but just heard on the news that Distemper is ON THE RISE  They just did a big announcement on it & said 10 fatalities so far... :( :( ...a VERY sad awful way for a dog to die. PLEASE Always get your dogs vaccinated ...this is one awful disease and none of us wants to take ANY chances - for anyone who has fears about getting their dogs vaccinated - PLEASE TALK it over with your vet and work out something that is suitable to you both...Many shots can be spaced out and it's very important that all our yorkies are safe even if they are mostly in the house Also...laws require them  Also - don't overlook protecting them against HEARTWORMS....THAT is simple - a yummy Chewy once a month called Heartguard can save you from future heartache..... Remember.....Heartworms are caused by mosquitos and we ALL have to deal with those nasty creatures. |

Great post Villette! Also, I'd like to add, Revolution takes care of heartworms too as well as many other pesky things... We get mosquitos really bad because we have a stream of running water on our back property...they breed down there and fly up here to annoy the heck out of us. |

I really was surprised to hear that on the news and this should include ALL breeds also....It's such a shame that these awful illnesses are on the rise with all the laws requiring dogs to be vaccinated...I've been hearing too much about Parvo also and it's just scary ~ :( This is really disgusting but a month ago - early in the morning - I found a RAT in my yard ! I live in a nice neighborhood and can't imagine how it got into my yard...and was laying right smack in the middle of it - I think a bird must have dropped it - but it goes to show you how many scary things CAN find their way into OUR space.... |
good post villette  we need to take care of our furbabies ;) |
Now Villete, are you sure the good with this vaccination outweighs the risks..involved,, I can post items off the net that... Kidding, girl! I totally agree with this, just had to go there... couldn't resist when I saw the thread name... |

It could have crawled out of your neighbor's garbage. They will lurk around at nite and get into it. Yuk! Yes, this is scary to think about and I'm sitting here right now looking through my book to make sure everyone is 100% up to date on their annuals. Only two I see needing them soon are Prince and Bridgit who will need them in April. Thanks for keeping me on my toes! |

It's pretty scary that such things as distemper are even still around ...and to be causing so many deaths in Houston really got MY attention. I'd say the risks would always outweigh the benefits....With dog parks and places we all go to - it's always better to not take ANY chances. |

That could be true Robbie....I hadn't thought of that cause I didn't know those ugly things were even in this neighborhood... My husband said it was payback from Me throwing so many toads into my neighbors yard and someone probably threw it into MY yard... |

anyone reading this - IF you have friends with ANY breed of dog - remind THEM too !! |
I keep my dogs vaccinated but you wonder how good the vaccinations are when you hear of these dogs getting parvo on here even though they have been vaccinated. |
