I'm Confused!! I love Yorkies but I also love Pomeranians. I have yet to get either. I use to want a Pom way before I wanted a Yorkie but over the past year I just fell in love with Yorkies which made me want one more than the Pom. Now i'm at a stump. I want both but I can't have both. Does anyone on here have a Pom and a Yorkie. If so which one do you like best? I'm sure you love both but there's always a favorite. Which one has a better tempermant? Which one breed would you buy again if you had to choose? Please help me make my decision. |
I dont have a pom but I think they are beautiful. I prefer yorkies over them though and plan to get another one. |
My bil had poms. They were cute and very good pets....BUT...(ya knew there was a but)....their personalities were no where close to the one my yorkie has. |
I don't have a Pom but can say Yorkies Rule....they are really the best of all dogs.....they are a BIG dog in a little dog body...you will not be disappointed. :) |
My family have had poms & yorkies. Poms shed a lot more than yorkies. They also had more health problems with the poms than the yorkies. |
Well you know what my answer will be. I am just very partial to Yorkies so of course I THINK THEY ARE THE BEST :D :number1ri :yorkiesar |
Yeah my boyfriend is like get the Yorkie you can always get a Pom later. |
Ya know if you posted the question on a Pom board....all the answers would be in reverse ;) |

It's obvious that most of us are partial to whichever breed we have ---because we love them! I have a Bichon and Yorkie - and love them equally. My friend has two of the most gorgeous Poms I have ever seen in my life. They are real eye stoppers. And, they have great playful personalities. I take my Yorkie over there and the three of them play all afternoon. I think her dogs are prettier - but for sure mine is --- the "cute little rascal." I'm sure you would love either of these two breeds....or any number of other small breeds too (assuming that you are looking for a small dog). And - I have never wanted one - but let me tell you that many friends of mine have mini daschunds are totally crazy about them. I think it would be nice if we could have one of everything!!!! But, you're learning that if you visit YorkieTalk - most people will say that a Yorkie is the dog for you! Carol Jean |
Pom and others Some years ago I decided I wanted a show Shar Pei. I went to a well known breeder and saw a litter of the most gorgeous pups. I sat on the floor with them..I made all kinds of noises, squeaked toys, patted the floor, snapped my fingers...4 big, lumps of puppy fat sat and looked at me like I was a nut..they never batted an eye or got excited. The breeder said.."you are expecting them to react like a Yorkie"..with that I never seriously looked twice at another breed. I can admire and enjoy all dogs, but I perfer to own Yorkies. |
This is definitely the worst place on the Net to get unbiased answers ;) I would say... find a breeder of both who will let you spend a little time playing with their dogs/puppies. I dont think anyone can help you decide. Goodluck |
For what it is worth, in my experience with many different dog breeds Pomeranians are tha yappiest little dogs I have seen. |

I have had both. Poms are beautiful, but the only negative I have about them is that they shed. Yorkies now rule! But, if you check out a Pom site, I am sure the answers will be different. Let us know what you decide. |
That really depends on you. I have Yorkies and I like them best. My sister has Pom and she likes them best. They are both adorable dogs. |
We thought of getting a Pom after we lost Cassie, thinking we shouldn't get another yorkie because part of our heart went with Cassie when she left us, and we didn't want to compare a new one to her. Well, we decided on another Yorkie and love her dearly, she has her very own personality and are so happy we did get her. Cassie will always hold a very special place in our heart and our memory. We are looking to get another yorkie in future, Jack has progressive Parkinsons and as time goes by he will need more and more of my care, so, we have decided to get another yorkie to help with keeping Baby Blessing company when that time should come. I personally think they are one of the most loving ( plus every magnificant word there is in the dictionary) best of luck to you in what ever breed you choose and may you have many many joyful years with your fur baby. Kind Regards, Patti and Jack and Baby Blessing |
MY girlfriend has a pom and she has an attitude and she is not very cuddly, maybe its just her I dont know, and you have to keep them combed out. they like to jump alot, its like little pogo sticks. they seem to be more yappy though, hers sure is. |
Had Poms for 11 years - Now we have Yorkies I hope you haven't become more confused with all of the wonderful opinions and advice you have received here by many Yorkie lovers. Perhaps you know the answer all along right? In your heart? We had 2 Pomeranians for 11 years. They are adorable of course and they are very loving companions. They do shed lots, but when you love your dogs, you deal with it right? When they crossed over the Rainbow Bridge we decided at this moment we couldn't replace our poms with new poms so we decided on the Yorkies. I can't speak too much about Yorkies yet because I am just a new to them myself - but they sure seem very loving! Poms are WONDERFUL but I bet Yorkies are too! I wish you the best in your decision. Hugs, Terra |
I couldn't make a decision either on a pom or yorkies... I bought a pom kept it I think 2 days and then decided I wanted a yorkie. The lady I bought it from always has a waiting list so it was not a problem to be returned. Poms shed, I have had 2 before and they shed no matter how much you brush. I'm sticking to yorkies and malteses now for housepets. |
