Yorkie feeding/training question I an new to Yorkie Talk and thus far it has been great. Thanks! That said I need help!!! Chloe is 9 1/2 weeks old and I have just started crate training her. My question is regarding feedings. I have heard that at her age she should always have food an water available, but that is confusing when I am trying to crate train her. Should I put her food and water out only in the am, allow her to go to her designated potty spot then put her in the crate for the rest of the day while I am at work then feed her again in the eveing when I return, allow her to go potty and place her in the crate for bedtime? Of course there is play time invovled as well :animal-sm Please help, any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!!! |
Our breeder, and trainer at that, both told us to feed our puppy 3 or 4 times a day, at set times. Give them five minutes to eat their food and if they walk away from it, take it away. Your dog will learn to eat, and eat all of thier food, when it is time. Our dog is a great eater now, most of the time, but he knows if he doesn't eat his food, he'll have to wait for the next mealtime! :-) good luck with your new baby! |
Yup, that is exactly what I do. Although, I do leave water available at all times. :) |
Is there anywhere else you can put her while you are at work? The kitchen or a bathroom? One thing I bought that really comes in handy is a baby play yard. When crate training puppies you aren't supposed to leave them in it for more then a few hours (except at night). If you aren't there to let her out when she needs to go she will go in the crate making training even more difficult. |
