Boring Brownie Since I've joined YT, I'm reading all the funny, loving stories you all share, thanks so much. I've enjoyed reading every single one of them, laughing out loud at work sometimes, any my co-workers just give me a funny look  Anyhow, my Brownie is 4 years old, but is REALLY BORING. All she does is sleep, sit and stare off into space or eat, and that's it. She doesn't like to play with toys, doesn't like to be cuddled, and especially doesn't like any other dogs, no matter what breed or size. Even when I come home, she'll just open her eyes, look at me and go back to sleep. I don't know what's is wrong with her. I try and take her to the park, she doesn't like being on a leash so she just sits there until I pick her up and walk to the park with her. As soon as I put her down, she wants to be on my lap and will sit there till I leave. I love my Brownie with all my heart, but she's kind of boring. Can anyone give me some suggestions on how to "pep" her up? She's like a paperweight on my desk...... She's really good, I mean she's toilet trained, never barks, never makes any messes with biting all my stuff, none of the fun stuff you guys go through. Can anyone help??? |
AWWW Poor baby maybe she needs a play mate.............Shes not hurtng or sick or any thing is she? |
I think you should take it for a blessing that your lil Yorkie is "boring" LOL! I have been close to several heart attacks because of my adventurous terrier! So has your lil baby always been so "boring"? Or is it just lately? Maybe you can try different activities to help strengthen your bond... obedience or agility maybe??? My relationship with my Yorkie is totally different after obedience and agility classes. Or experiment with different toys? My baby doesnt like toys but loves certain foods and is highly motivated that way! I think you just need to experiment with different things and try to strengthen your bond, as not all dogs are the same. |
Well - it's a fact that different dogs have different personalities. Sounds like yours is a really laid back quiet little thing. Mine is very playful and likes to be held. But, the things that really get him going are children or other dogs. And, he really likes company - any age. He's always so excited to see them. However - like a lot of dogs - he is his quietest when he and I are home alone. You certainly would think that there might be something that your little guy would get excited about once in a while. I'm sure he's healthy. I would think that you would know if he isn't, since you have had him for so long. By the way - now that you mention it. My Bichon is kind of a boring dog also. He does get excited with company, etc. But basically, he just sits around. He has always been somewhat shy and quiet. That's just his nature. It will be interesting to see what others think. I hate to even suggest this because you'll probably just be wasting your money. But some basic blood tests might show him to have a low thyroid or be borderline anemic, etc. Who knows! However, I think you're just dealing with a very low-key personality. I know - I have one!!!! Carol Jean |
Brownie has always been boring. I've tried various things, like taking her to the park, feeding her every single treat that I can find - she likes Greenies - but will just hoard the treat and chew on it till she's finished, she doesn't like it when I take it away and try to throw it. She doesn't like other dogs because when a friend of mine got a puppy, I toilet trained him and Brownie ignored him the whole time and would snap at him if he got close..... |
Mitzi is INSANE!! She's really a fruit loop. I wouldn't mind if she had some of brownie's calm bits, LoL! But I agree with Yorkieshadow. Maybe a little puppy around the place would bring out the "fun" in the boring brownie. LOL!! Bless her. :D |
I'm actually considering getting another puppy, but I really don't think I can handle all the newness of a new one all over again at this time. I need to move house soon and I'm not sure how Brownie will adapt. Also, since Brownie doesn't like other dogs, she might get jealous and get even more boring. I'm at home at the moment and she's lying on my lap sleeping..........*sigh* |
Ive heard that dogs can go through depression and thats what it sounds like she has. That she doesnt even get excited when you come in the door is what leads me to bellieve it. They have doggie antidepressants. |
She gets excited when my boyfriend comes over tho?!?! It's funny, tonight we went out for Valentine's Day dinner and came home with flowers and she just FREAKED out on him. Don't know what was wrong with her, maybe she thought she deserved a Valentine too....hahaha. I gave her a piece of strawberry cake (made in Japan especially for dogs) and she ate it and went mental for a while and now she's sleeping........... :) |
Poor little Brownie, I would look in to finding her a playmate. If she didn't like your friends male, maybe a female :D I have heard of furbabies being layed back, but never all the time. hmmmmmm maybe a puppy class? Did you ask your Vet about her? I wonder if they have peppy pills for furbabies? Hope someone has some kind of answers. Princess is on the go all day, I wish she would take a nap, I sure could use one :D Please keep us posted :) :) |

That's a very good idea!!! I'll try and give her some sugary foods and pep her up. Brownie is a very finicky eater, she will only eat certain foods. I've tried apples, but she doesn't like them. Are there any healthy, sugary foods to suggest? Thanks in advance. :) |
