Took Esme to the park... it was a bad experience I feel like an awful mommy. I took Esme to the park today and let her run around in the grass. Esme is usually indoors, so being outside is not common for her. Anyhow, we were sitting in the shade and she was panting really hard. I brought a little dish and a water bottle and poured some out for her to drink, but she was still panting really hard. Finally, I just decided we needed to go home. I picked her up and started walking to the car, and she did something she has never done before. She peed on me while I was holding her! I was really concerned. I blasted the air in the car and held her for a bit. Then we came home, I put some ice cubes in her water dish and gave her some Nutrical. She is sleeping in her crate right now. She hasn't come out since we got home. Has this happened to anyone? I guess it's just to hot outside for her and she isn't used to it. Now I know I have to be more careful with my baby and the heat outside. Mari |
Ohh my..poor little Esme...maybe she was also scared of the new surroundings...were there any other dogs??? I don;t think it is THAT hot yet to make her sick from that...but try to take her out either really early in the morning or in the end of the afternoon.... Hope she feels better!! P.S. What park did you take her too? |
I just took her to a park by my house (in Miami Lakes). It wasn't a dog park, so there weren't any other dogs around. There were a few children who came up to her, but she was happy to see them. |
I take my dogs outdoors all the time. My trainer has 20 acres of enclosed field where my dogs can run, fetch, track, and play on the agility equipments. There is even a pond but my dogs can't swim. However, I do have to watch them because they are so excited to be out there they will get overheated at time. I keep a bucket of cold water for them to drink at all times. And if they get too over heated. I wet them down with water(not ice water) and we relax in the shade. Of course when we go home they sleep like the dead. |
How hot was it today? If they aren't used to being outdoors like that, they can get too hot and be uncomfortable. I would think she peed becacuse she was scared or couldn't hold her bladder because of the heat. You could try letting her out to play on an overcast day (not sure if you have those in Florida :p) or just take her out for shorter time periods. |
Oh...have you ever been to tropical park? they have agility clases there...i was just wondering if u ever been there |
