Please help with the smell!!! My apartment smells like pee!!! I have tried all sorts of cleaners, sprays, carpet steaming, OXY, Woolite pet odor spray, Industrial cleaners. I even bought my own little carpet steamer. I can't remove the smell and I know that as long as Isabelle still smells her urine, she will continue to pee on the carpet. I am ready to pull my hair out!!! Are there any products that worked for any of you? I am desperate. I am too embarrased to have guests over... |
carpets Carpets are such a pain to keep clean. I put down laminate, vinyl and tile...at this point in my life I will never had another wall to wall carpet anywhere. I have too many pups from time to time and I just GAVE UP!!! |

I have all hardwood floors. I use Odor Handlers -- a product from the folks that make Coat Handlers shampoo and conditioner products. It's not fantastic, but it does work pretty good. If I ever build another house, I will have heated concrete floors that have that really nice painted finish. That way I can just hose out the house once in a while. |
I used Nature's Miracal (SP) and it seemed to work pretty good on the carpet. You do have to SOAK the spot and let it dry completely for it to work. I bought it at PetSmart. |
Sounds like you're having potty training problems. When you're not home your baby should be in room with tile or something, with a wee wee pad. When you are home keep an eagle eye on her. I'm sure we have threads on potty training. Good Luck! :thumbup: |
If you are on tile..and it is not new, check that the grout is sealed, or you will have the same problems.. You can check if the grout is sealed good by pouring a little water on it.. If the water soaks in, seal the grout...if it runs through through the grout lines and stays on top..you're sealed well... Good luck! Bren |
I have several pets and put in laminated flooring --- all over!!! And, I have a lot of area rugs. Many of my rugs are small and washable. I have several larger (carpet) ones. But the end result is that they are replaceable -- if ever necessary -- at a fraction of the price wall to wall carpet would be. My little guy is confined to the kitchen when I'm gone and is good about using his puppy pad then. But if he has the run of the house, he'll still pee almost anywhere. So - he runs around the house wearing a belly band constantly. I just use washcloths - pinned with a diaper pin. And, I have dozens of them. They go right into the wash - no problem. This is the main reason I got a little boy! I notice, however, that you have a girl. Good luck. I know potty training can be very hard. I'm still working on my little guy. But, at least when he wears his belly band running around - his pee never hits a carpet. This works great for now. I am anxiously waiting for warmer weather (and longer days) so we can go outside more early in the morning and when I get home from work. Carol Jean |

i too would like some advice on this.. anmy suggestions, do you think it is because the carpet pad underneath already absorbed all of the pee do the only way is to replace it? |
Good ol vinegar and water..not the dark the clear. Put it in a spray bottle and everytime they pee ..spray and scrub that spot. If you have light colored carpets you can put a little bit of bleach in your carpet cleaner with the cleaning solution and it will brighten your carpets disinfect them and take out stains. I had carpet in a rental we own and it's light beige..by the time I was done the carpet looked brand new.. |

well it is a rental home so I cannot do that..... hmmmm..... someone suggested odorban but I don't know if it will still work if it is all of the carpet not just some areas? If you walk in you cannot tell but if you kneel down u can pretty much tell... Gosh if it was mine I would just pull the darn thing ,but no can do! |
I use a product called Get Serious, a little goes a long way (Petsmart) - it claims to remove urine from the pad and down to the cement. I have been really happy with its performance for new stains and old stains. It does leave an odor at first (better than the urine smell), but after 3 or 4 days you can't smell a thing. It doesn't just "bleach" the stain or cover up the odor, it actually removes the urine (by blotting with a towel). |
I have a carpet steamer too. I've found that if I add some of the odor remover product (odo ban, nature's miracle, whatever) to the solution in the steamer and do my carpets...then use a dehumidifier, or turn on the heat or ac to dry the carpets out more quickly it seems to work. Once, when my shih tzu was very old and very incontinent, I had to do that three times before the smell left. Note: smell is definately WORSE when cleaning. Also, it's pointless if your pet pee's in the area again, so watch closely. GOOD LUCK! |
Odorban is excellent for getting rid of pee smell. I had cat spray on my carpet and it took it right out. I get it at Sams club. |

I don't believe there is anything you can do to get the smell out so the dog can't smell it. It is no doubt soaked into the pad underneath. A professional cleaner might be able to get it out so people can't smell it. |

How old is your furbaby? I would buy some babygates and keep them confined to one room in the house. I have a 2 yr old and a 3 month old.The 2yr old has run of the house and when he has "accidents" he stays in our familyroom. DON'T let your furbaby run loose around the house until they are close to fully potty trained. I went nuts when Cookie was peeing and pooping on our rugs! I bought a steam cleaner and used it like every week! I would use Resolve rug shampoo then some Nature's Miracle and keep your furbaby confined to one room. It is terrible , I know! I would feel so much guilt leaving mine in one room, even though it was a huge room like 14ft by 25ft long. I use Simple Solution from PetsMart, and I think it works great. I don't notice any pee smell at all, and we've had Gracie for about 2 1/2 months. Good luck with whichever product you decide to try. P.S. I've also had good luck with vinegar and water in the past, but I like the way Simple Solution smells. |
I know your main concern is the carpet but you might want to check her bedding too. We had a female quite some time ago and we were working on housetraining...everyone was doing well but I kept smelling pee inside the house. We had white berber carpet and there were no spots and we scrubbed and shampooed the carpet but the smell was still there. Come to find out our lovely little girl had been wetting her bed and it had soaked into the foam pad in her crate...once I washed the pad the smell was gone. |
I would get a gallon of odoban and rent a carpet cleaner .....odoban is a odor killer not a masker as well kills 99% germs, smells like eucalyptus...I use it on everything. Hardwood, rugs, drapes, furniture.... it ever took blood out of my wool sofa...anything at this point is worth a try! If you dont have a Sams club check with home depot or walmart in your area. |
