Thank you - Annie & Susie here I want to thank everyone for your kinds words and support regarding our new girls (Annie & Susie) that came home on February 11th and for your healing words regarding the loss of our poms, Muffin and Ginger (11 months apart - they were 11 years old). My husband and I have been trying train the puppies with the pee pad...so far...10% success (grin and bear it). Of course it seems like an impossible task and I wonder what did I get myself into. After 12 years of not having to train puppies, I'm not quite as young as I used to be and it certainly seems like a giant task. It's cold here right now - so we are doing the pee pads. When we picked them up from the breeders...they were on newspapers. We are all getting better acquainted with other with lots of kisses and sweet talk...but the training...oh.... I've had them outside a few times too and they now seem to like running with a the snow....galloping like little horses (giggle). Anyway...a question...even though the girls sometimes go on the pee pad...why would they go on the bare floor more? Thanks again. Blessings to you all. Terra |
I would just watch them very carefully when they ar out and at any sign of going place them on the pads. I trained Cali to go on the Jump Start pads from Petsmart and she trained so quickly I couldn't beleive it. They are more expensive but well worth it in my eyes. I know this isn't the right way to train but I set up her dog playpen with her bed and blankets on one end and her pad at the other. She always went on the pad and when she is out I leave the end open and she just hops in there to go. She was 9 weeks old when I got her and with in a few weeks she was trained 99%. Good luck. |
Dear Patti, Thanks for your suggestion regarding the Jump Start pads. I did try to put them down this morning and what they do is they try to pick-up the pad by chewing on the ends of the pad. I think they ripped up a lot of newspapers this way. The pee pads we have now are fastened in a tray so that the pad itself is not on the floor the pee pad tray is along with the pad. It turns out that one of the girls - Annie, she does very well. She goes on the pee pad pretty well, but Susie, does not seem to want to go on the pad at all. This is curious. They both continue love to go outside even in the Minnesota winter here (it's pretty warm at 27 degrees), but now...it's tough to have them come in...with two dogs its hard to catch them to come in. Whew! Another new experience. They love to run and run and run some more. Thanks again Patti. In checking the ages of Annie and Susie, they were 10 weeks old yesterday. Have a great day. Terra |
