Help me decide which puppy to buy! Hi you all. I'm new here, having just registered today. I am in the final stages of purchasing a Yorkie and I need help deciding which one to buy. My choices are 2 siblings. IIRC, the mother weighed 4 lbs. I don't know the father's weight. I hope to get a Yorkie who will be around 5 lbs full grown. My choice is between a puppy who weighed 1.15 pounds at 6 weeks, or the one who weighed 2 lbs at 6 weeks. My fear is that the 2 lb baby will be much larger than 5 lbs at adulthood. Would someone be so kind as to help me guesstimate how much each of these will weigh full grown? I know that whichever one I get I will absolutely love and adore. I appreciate any input. Jennifer |
To me, 2lbs at 6 weeks sounds like a BIG puppy. My yorkie is 12 weeks old right now and just now weighs 2lbs 1 oz. In my non-professional opinion LoL I think a pup that weighs 2lbs at 6 weeks will be like 9-10lbs fully grown... Good luck :D |
I am definately not an expert but my baby weighs 1 lb 12 oz. and he is 10 weeks the breeder told me he will be between 3-4 pounds full grown so if they are 1.15 and 2 lbs at 6 weeks I would imagine they are probably going to be bigger than 5 pounds but I am no expert. You could always ask the breeder what she thinks and how bid the father is. |
Thanks for the response. I was concerned that 2 lbs at 6 wks would mean a big dog. I'm leaning toward the 1.15 lbs at 6 weeks dog, assuming she will weigh around 5 pounds. |
no one can predict a puppies weight with precision.... However, toby weighed 3 lbs at 12 weeks and now he is 9 lbs. . . . i think even if you get the 1 lber it will be a larger yorkie and not necessarily 5lbs or less..... what do teh breeders out there think??? |
My pup weighed one pound exactly at 6 weeks and my estimate on what he will weigh now is 6 lbs. |
I am not sure how much mocha weighs now.. i think about 2 lbs and she's 11 weeks... i am hoping she'll be at least 7 lbs fully grown.. the breeder said around 6 or 7.. I would suggest you go with your gut.. if you think you want the smaller dog go for her Brooke |
I think once I see them all in person it will be easier to make a decision. My ideal dog would be 5-6 lbs fully grown, but I know the loveability/temperament aspects of the dog will take precedence. Thanks for taking the time to help me out :) |
size Both are large for their age...or did I misunderstand? I.15 is one pound and 15 oz, correct..one more oz and it is 2 pounds! If you meant one pound and 1.5oz then it should be closer to what you want...but if 6 pounds does not bother you, then 7 won't either, trust me..the difference comes when a person wants a 3 pounder and gets a 7 pounder. I could pick the puppy you like best, personality, coat, color etc, regardless of size..best wishes |
yorkierose is right i wanted a 7 pder and i got a 20pder theres just a little difference lol |
If I understand correctly, the smaller dog is 1-1/6 lb (app) at 6 weeks. This should equate to a 6ish dog at full growth? TOmorrow's the day. We are all so excited to be welcoming our new baby. I hope she loves us as much as we know we will love her :aimeeyork |
i'm going to guesstamate but i have a chart from many years ago and according to it the 1 1/6 will be around 5lbs the other will be over 6lbs. |

We Got Sirius At 7 Weeks And He Was 1.3 Pounds Now At 10 Weeks He Weighs 3.4 Pounds. The Vet Said That He Would Be A Small Yorkie But His Weight Had A Lot To Do With His Bones. He Has Bigger Bones I Guess. He Goes To The Vet For A Ck Up Tommorow Will Let You Know What He Weighs Now At 11 Weeks. |
Unless I'm misunderstanding, there is only 1 ounce difference in the puppies. That isn't enough to matter in the long run in my opinion. I would go with the one I think is the prettiest and the best personality. To me, the only outcome in how much they are going to weigh is going to be how many treats they get :D Good luck and congratulations on your new baby :animal-sm |
