wondering about adding a male adult dog to family A friend knows of a male Yorkie that has been mistreated and needs a really good home, which I would have that for sure. But, I wonder about male dogs, since I have a three yr. old female Yorkie! I am not too fond of males, but I need some in put about them over females! Please help! |
Poor male yorkie! Is he neutered? Is your girl spayed? It would help if they were. Maybe you could take hime on a trial period. |
Cheryl, do you have children? The reason I ask is that many abused Yorkies do not do well in homes with kids. Many times they don't like the noise and they become stressed and when this happens they can bite out of fear. I have never had a problem with male vs female and having problems. Usually the girls are a little more bossy but the boys accept it. Of course all of my animals are spayed and neutered. |
Graff was an adult when I found him and had definetly been abused. But while he doesn't like men and alot of women he loves kids. We wondered if it wasn't a man that had abused him so terribly and if he didn't live with a child and was there protector or best bud. |
I know several persons that weren't found of males either . Guess what ? Some of those persons adopted males and are very happy with them . I asked one just for fun if he would like to change Max for one of mine . He said " Never in a 1000 year ". |

My Mom would have taken him in a heartbeat if he would not have stayed at my house. My hubby did not like him much at first but Graff did not like him either so it was fine. After Doug got sick Graff adopted him and Doug became very very close to him. He told me Now I understand how you feel about animals. Lora as tight on money as we are if someone offered me money for Graff and Haylee I wouldnt take any amount of money for either one of them. So that is the one good thing that has happend with him getting sick. Well guess there have been a few good things that happened. We as a family have become so much closer since this has happend. |
I love having my six! 3 boys, 3 girls. I won't say I love having six, but it just worked out that way. If he is neutered, that is a good start. Adding a problem dog to your family if you aren't ready to deal with problems could be bad. I would not base my decision on the sex, as males are just as lovable and cuddly as the girls. They each have their own personality, and each are unique. If he barks too much, or fights with your girl, or even additional health problems; these are more the things I would consider before adopting. |
I have a male and a female and they get along great. I like that combonation. Just have him neutered and you wont have any male problems. |
I think it is wonderful to read and hear about people adopting Yorkies. Of course, I will never understand why these adorable and loving babies would ever be in that position! I have a male...........I don't think it would matter much though. As long has you would work with him and give him what he needs, I think he would end up just as if you had him always. Medical problems....that's another issue. I have taken in dogs that no one else wanted because they were always sick. Of course, I always ended up spending thousands and then they would pass on anyway. BUT for me, it didn't matter. As long as they were free of pain and happy for a few years or so, it was worth it....course the heartbreak is another story. In other words, I wouldn't mind taking in a rescue even if he had medical problems.....but that is something each family has to decide on. I think as long as you have the time to train him and help him in areas that he needs the help, he would do just fine in your family and with your girl. Good luck....and keep us posted. |
