Drooling
 

I've noticed a couple threads on this, but wanted to post again because this is new to me and I need some advice/opinions. When we first got Bella, she was in the car quite a bit. It was over an hour drive to get her to the vet, and then another half n hour from there to get her home. Actually, more like 20 some minutes. The breeder gave her something I guess to calm her tummy before she left, so that would explain why she didn't have an occurance there...but now whenever we take her somewhere she drools uncontrollably! Whether we hold her or she's in her carrier, her face is soaked by the time we get where we're going. :( She hasn't thrown up *knock on wood*, it's just ALOT of drool. Is this something she'll grow out of? We never had this problem with Kel, so I'm concerned, but then again Kel was nowhere near puppy age when we got her. Bella's going to be 3 months old on Tuesday. I'm thinking it's just her being nervous and not used to car rides yet...at least that's what i'm HOPING for. Should I ask the vet any questions next weekend? Her appointment's on the 18th. I really wanna make sure this is something that isn't going to spiral and cause her to get really ill every time we have to take her somewhere. Today it was just a 10 or so minute car ride, possibly 15 minutes...the vet is a 20 something minute car ride. Any input?

Too much drool is actually a sign of extreme stress and not a good thing.

Really? She is fine once we get her out of the car and she's running around and playing like a mad woman. In fact right after we got her home, wiped off her face, and fixed her dinner she chowed that down and I gave her a little nutrical to just be on the safe side. She ate everything and was great. This worries me. :( Can they be stressed but acting normal? IE playful, excited, etc?

I should say too that the drool wasn't dripping off her face or anything, her chin was just pretty wet.

Jewels pants and drools when she is the car too. This is sometimes followed by throwing up. I think it is stress too. Someone on here told someone to put them in a carseat so they can look out the window and give them something to chew on. I have tried this and it helped me. She still gets sick but not always

I put her lamb in her carrier with her so she has something to play with, as well as her blanket. I guess I need to hold her and redirect her with something to keep her from stressing out. I really didn't think she was stressed because once she got inside our destination and back home again she was fine, running and playing like absolutely nothing was wrong with her. Is this something that they grow out of though? She's not even 13 weeks yet. Are car rides just something they need time to get used to?

Some peoples dogs outgrow that. Jewels hasnt but giving her something to chew on has helped.

Thank you for your advice. I'm scared to take her to the vet on Saturday now. I'll try these things and hope that they work.

You might wanna give her a little nutrical after car rides too since she is so young. I used to do that when jewels was younger.

Amazingly enough I did remember to do that when we got home, lol. I gave her some nutrical and then fed her lunch. She devoured everything which made me think she was fine and that she had just been on the verge of car sick, I just thought maybe she was nauseous without ACTUALLY getting sick.

Bella does the same thing with the drooling....the first day we took her home she drooled uncontrolably and then threw up. She is getting better though but still drools a little....Louie on the other hand pants like a mad man when we are in the car............he never used to until we got Bella....go figure.............. :confused:

Kelli used to pant in the car...she would NEVER drool but she'd pant and wiggle so much. She just loved to have the window rolled down so she could stick her nose out, lol. I want Bella to not be stressed because eventually I'd like us to be able to take her anywhere that we're able to so she can be with us and the family as often as possible, just like Kelli was.

Well i dont know but i used to have a cocker spaniel (dont know if i spelled that right correct me plz if i didnt) and every time we got in the car he would pant throw up then drool and when the car stoped he ate the throw up but once we got out he would just run around lik he was fine and play with everyone well i wish you and bella the best of luck :) ;) :D :rolleyes: :cool: :p :aimeeyork :animal36 :dog:

In short the answer is yes.
Drolling exesively is a sign of stress.
I know I just read it in Truids book and also it was mentioned with pics in Brenda Aloffs new book.
It is just something to note and when you see it again actually write down what is going on in the room or just happened.
It can be just something little and easy to fix.
