Suggestions please Hello all... I'm a new Yorkie fan. I never even thought of owning one, but one look at the darling I rescued and it turns out she owns me! I'm having issues with grooming ideas. I love the way she's so prissy and pretty, but want her hair to be a little easier tamed. I'd love some suggestions on ways to have her groomed that will keep her looking sweet and girlie, but also manageable. Thanks! |
A good start is using Johnsons No More Tangles for Babies....you didn't say how you want her to look or what's happening but if you want her to be easier to brush - you can try this at a low cost to start with. |
2 Attachment(s) Good idea Villette! Or you could just get her a puppy cut. that is what I did with gizmo because he still has his baby hair, he is 8 months old now, but his hair is thin, and always looked tangled. Here is a pic of his hair cut, hope this helps a little bit. |
This shampoo Johnsons No More Tangles for Babies will take out the knots or tangles? Pebbles is getting lots of knots now that I am letting her hair grow. |

when you spray it on - you leave it in...IF you blowdry you'll be amazed at what it does :) |
thank you daisymaes mom! |
Thank you will buy it today. I hate to see her with tangles. Thanks Villette my savior like usual. |
Do you use any nutritional supplements with her food? And perhaps certain types of shampoos and conditioners can help with her hair as well. My Yoda has relatively short hair, so I'm probably not the best to advise about this particular issue. We'd love to see pictures of your little one! :) |
We use the Johnson No More Tangles as well and it is so awesome!! I brush the girls everynight and use just a little bit and we rarely have tangles anymore...it is really easy on their hair!!! We got ours at Walmart... |
We'll definitely try the no more tangles...from the looks of the babies you guys have it's fabulous. I was thinking of getting her a shorter cut, but I love putting the little bows in her hair. Anyone have a cut that allows both? |
1 Attachment(s) I keep Hallie short and am learning about bows :) I just did this to her hair yesterday (excuse the stolen soccer ball in her mouth). And now after reading this I have to go get some no more tangels :) After looking at the pic I realized she is wearing a white/pink dress, Simon's bow in her head, and her face is dirty :) she isn't always so disheveled, I promise! haha |
I used Johnson's baby shampoo, spray and something like a conditioner. But dander was killing her -- constant itching would make her snow. I realized that they have no tears shampoos, detangling sprays and conditioners for puppies. They are pricey, but are specifically designed for pets (ex. pH balanced for their skin). I feel more comfortable to use those as to not to have her itch that much anymore. Try baby stuff first, maybe you will not have the problems I did. |
Another excellent conditioner is Mane and Tail leave in conditioner. You can use it full strength after a bath. Massage it full strength into matts and then rinse thoroughly. For daily conditioning add a small amount to a spray bottle of water and you have a quick, inexpensive conditioner. WELCOME to YT. Can't wait to see pics! |
The whole key to how easy it is going to be to groom depends on the hair type. A silky is easy to comb through a cottony is not. My girl has A silky coat and I let hers grow out. It is long and pretty and pretty easy to groom. My male has a cotton coat that matts easily and we keep him short. A good shampoo and conditioner and leave in conditioner is a must for long hair. Also I suppliment with Missing Link which is good for the hair and skin. My girl has a real shiny coat. I get this at Petsmart. |
