Hates the car Hi - Biddy hates the car. She cries & yelps & shakes whenever we are in the car. Then she is all jumpy and whiney for about an hour after the car ride. It is to the point that I have stopped taking her anywhere because it is too frustrating to drive with her in the car with me. She is not a nervous dog at all - but it's a different story when we're in the car. Now we have a new puppy & he is fine in the car, but I feel guilty taking him places and leaving Biddy at home (that's not fair). Any suggestions? |
How long did you try to get her used to the car? How many trips, aprox? Bailey hated the car when I got him too. I just kept taking him with me. Now, in the 17 days that I've had him, he's fine. My only advice would be to try again, taking Biddy for car rides, even just short ones around the block maybe with the new puppy together... Good luck |
At first Esme was wild in the car. Her heart was beating really fast and she wouldn't sit still. Now, she is completely relaxed in the car. I agree with the above poster, just keep trying. I think it takes time for them to get used to it. |
Does he really hate it or is he just overly excited about it? It sounds like he is over excited. Here is a website that might help: www.perfectpaws.com/car.html |
Sometimes Jackson 1 Attachment(s) likes it and other times he gets shaky. He seems to like his booster seat and I give him a greenie to chew. |
I have this problem with Archie. he just sits there and pants through the whole car ride. He won't eat treats or play with toys. I was told to ignore this because if I make a big deal, he thinks that this is a good thing and he will get attention. |

Lexi hated riding in the car too, I did the same and now when I say bye bye she runs for the door. Also, she is much more content in a doggie carseat. |
This was really helpful - thanks! |
I am a nervous reck  having Cookie loose in the car while I am driving so I make sure she is in her car seat/bag while I am driving. :car: If there is someone else in the car w/ me than its ok for her to be loose but I don't let her walk or roam around the car. Biddy's Mom - if Biddy has a favorite bag/purse he may associate it w/ being a safe place so try placing him inside the bag and bringing him into the car while in his bag. Putting a favorite blanket or toy inside would help too. Hope this works for you and Biddy. My Cookie just loves her bag b/c she knows she will be going out w/ mommy and I only have to go about a block before she is getting comfortable to take a nap... :aimeeyork |
On the ride home from the breeders' Tia sat in my lap (bad bad, I know) -- but I think that really helped her with the car thing. Now she goes in her crate and goes right to sleep :) |
I think that it is just that she is SO excited. She runs around like a nut! Maybe a confined space like a bag is a good idea. I hope so! Thanks!!! |
