Are my Yorkies different from others? I went to Petsmart yesterday and bought 2 Kongs and the liver paste and other treats to go in them. I spent over $30.00. I have read on YT that other Yorkies love their Kongs and they will entertain them for hours. I thought mine would like them. I came home filled them up and gave the Kongs to them. They just sniffed at them and walked off. They are still laying in the same place. They haven't even touched them. Are my dogs weird? I even put peanut butter in one after they didn't seem to like the other stuff. They didn't like the peanut butter either, I guess. Still wouldn't tough it. Does anybody else's dog not like the Kongs? That was thirty dollars I could have spent on something else. |
Mine don't like the Kong's either, but I've never put anything in it. I don't know if they would like them or not with some pb in it! Maybe I could try that! I don't think your dogs are weird! :D |
Wish I could help..but my Daisy is the same way. Anything playful she could care less. Doesn't play with anything :( I try and try, but she just isn't into anything. I guess being a kennel dog for a few years before coming to live with me had a real effect on her. Good luck..keep trying! |

Mine aren't real fans either! I have peanut butter in them and it occupies them for awhile but other than that they tend to ignore them! |
my yorkies don't like any kind of treat. I have looked at the Kongs tho because of what I see on here and can't figure out how they ever get anything out of them. i guess I won't be buying any. |
Don't feel bad. My Yorkie and Aussie don't like them either. I have tried the peanut butter and all. Thank goodness I got mine on sale. Sucks when you spend your hard earned money and they turn their nose up at it. Just like our human babies, huh? |
Try filling them with their kibble....mine love eating from theirs. :D |

Try rubbing a little coating of NutriStat on them. That helps sometimes. Don't leave a lot just enough for the smell to stay. Keep putting stuff inside..they will get the idea probably when you are not there to see them do it. They plan it that way to keep us on our toes.. |
I had rotties that loves their kongs my boxer does if I put treats and peanut butter in them but my yorkies could care less. Daisy got a kinda kong thing from her last secret buddy and they like that, its purple and kinda dumbell shapped you can put small treats and they roll out. It is also thinner in the middle so it fits in their mouths. |
My girls don't play with that kind of stuff either....we bought them a talk to me ball that gave out kibble and the girls didn't even barely sniff at it!! It was so crazy, they just don't like that kind of stuff!!! Don't worry your yorkies are weird....they all like different things!! |
As someone else on YT suggested, I smash a piece of American cheese inside of Midori's kong (really mush it against the sides) leaving just a little out at the top she LOVES it! She doesn't like the peanut butter though, so try the cheese! ;) |
Mine will only chew on the kong if there is something in it. |
I'll try the cheese in it. i give them cheese as a snack sometimes and they like it. My two used to play with toys more but now that I think about it they haven't been much lately. Maybe I need to get some new toys out. I put a lot of them up because they had so many and they were always all over the floor. Maybe I'll just keep trying different things in the Kong until I find something they like. I hate to have wasted that money. Just think, I could have bought me something with that money. |
Miss Mini is werid ..She didnt like the kong thing nor does she care for anything rubber or plastic .I finally went to a local pet store which does grooming and asked what treats would my yorkie baby like she suggests a spiral raw hide thing and i took one home not very optimistic that shed like it and to my surprise she loves it she has widdled it down to about 3" it was about 8" when i gave it to her .She likes to sit with her Daddy and chew at it ..so cute :thumbup: |
Trace doesn't like his kong either :eek: I've never tried putting kibble in it, but don't think that would impress him either....kibble's out in a bowl all day...no work required ;) |
Sully never liked his kong or even peanut butter in it, he could care less about either. But I did stuff a piece of cheese down in it once and freeze it and he liked that ok, but more for the licking-out-the-cheese part and not for chewing the kong. |
I can’t help but think kongs are just for larger dogs. I bought Ginger one that said it was for puppies, I stuffed it with treats she normally loves and she initially showed some interest, but her jaw didn’t seem strong enough (or big enough maybe?) to get it out. So that was it…I actually forgot she had one ‘til I ready this post. But yeah, $30, that kinda sucks…sorry. |
Monkey didn't care to play with his kong either. He would just lick the extra peanut butter out, but didn't care to work for the rest. He doesn't like any kind of treats either (except those cupcakes I get from DogBakery). He just hides them never to be seen again until I clean between the sofa. Your dogs aren't wierd...don't worry! :D |
Sirius is pretty unimpressed by his kong also. He has moments where he thinks it is his worst enemy and attacks it and pounces at it like a kitty, but for the most part he'd much rather be munching on his bully stick or playing with one of his stuffed animals. I think its safe to say all yorkies have their own personalities and just because yours dont like kongs it doesnt make them different, it makes them themselves :] good luck finding something they like<3 |
Now everyone has me wondering if I should or should not try the kong. I have been thinking about it because my friend says her girls love it. So now I don't know if I should waist the money in hopes they will like it or do nothing.... :confused: |
Starsky hate the rubber the kongs are made of. He won't chew on anything that smells like that rubber. Even some of his ball and squeeky toys are like that. |

Kong My girl gets her kong when I am leaving her. I put the canned liver paste in it and she doesn't care if I leave or not!! She uses her long, long tongue to get the paste out. When I return, I put it up tiil the next time I have to leave her!! |
