Is this too much for a yorkie???? Hi, I'm new to the site and I think the info on here is just amazin! I was wondering if you could share your thoughts on this small issue - I have been doing some research on yorkies because I am thinking about getting one in the near future. I came across a breeder's website and the parents look beautiful, but the breeder is asking for $2,000 for a male and $2,500 for a female, is this a reasonable price? Thank you for any comments you might have :) http://www.breeders.net/breeder/147712 |
I'm sure this is more than most people pay -- especially if they are looking for a pet and are not interested in breeding or showing their dogs. I paid $850 for a darling little guy. A total pet! Carol Jean |
I paed 1500$ for my male yorkie, but i will go for a shows and if he will get a good results i will breed him. But if you want pet only, its realy to much. You can get way cheaper. |
I dont know about anywhere else, but here, for that price, you get a show dog.Yorkies are quite expensive, but shouldent be over $1000 (in my opinion)..anything over that is just bizzare! We must keep in mind that these dogs arent cheap to maintain (grooming, vet bills, clothes (lol) etc etc) so it wont stop at $2000;) If you only want pet quality, then thats what you should pay for:) Having said that,I know that depending on where you are,a yorkie can cost more or less and I have no idea what the prices are in the us because Im in europe so Im not the best person to give advice on this subject;) All I know is that $2000 is two months wages here, and that seems just waaaaay to much:rolleyes: |
That isn't bad if it is from a reputable breeder and good bloodline. |
SInce you're in Miami why don't you tyr seaside yorkies.. I've heard that she produces really great pups. I spoken with her about purchasing a pup when I got Daisy, but she wasn't going to have a litter for a while.. She was really nice. |
I just picked up my puppy on friday and i paid $1650.... and another $150 for the health gaurentee.... but i went about mine the wrong way (through a pet store) so i would look into it really carefully and ask lots of questions (something i wish i did) in the end.... if you fall in love with it.... 2k or 2500 wont be too much :) nothing would be really |
I lucked out with my female and only paid $600, for her. My male who I'm suppose o be getting anyday I paid $1000 for. After having Raven for awhile I think I would've paid about anything just to have a second. (They are so darn addicting) Good luck with your search! Kim |
It all depends on what you are looking for . I paid much more for my male and my females . |
Thank you all for your comments!!!!! I am looking for just a pet, but a really cute one :) It seemed that price was a bit high, I'll just keep looking. I will check out Seaside and see what happens. Thanks again!!!! This forum is great! I'm so glad I found it :D |
It all depends, if I had the extra, I would especially if the breeder was reputable, etc. I gave $500 for She-Ra and $350 for Harley. I got lucky down here!! Especially since they both turned out small. She-Ra is 5 lbs, Harley 5 1/2 lbs!! |
$2000 seem like a lot. But if you want it and can afford it, it's worth it. Depending on what you are getting; most of the smaller Yorkies I have seen for sale on these websites are around that price. But for $2000 I could haven gotten Jake and maybe two more babies for that. ( & I would love it) Good luck on your search..... |

I paid $1400.00 for my female (in California so maybe kinda comparable to Florida). I got lucky because I had no clue what I was doing and bought her at only 6 weeks old from a woman who also had no clue what she was doing. There was no health testing (that I know of). No contract and only a little handwritten notation on my little generic receipt "30 day guarantee". So far she is healthy and perfect at 19 months old. I shudder to think of the problems that I could have run into healthwise. I think $1400.00 was probably a lot in that case, however if I were to get another one (and I probably will someday) I would easily pay as much again but this time I will be much more particular. In fact I would even pay more if a breeder offered a good health guarantee and all the appropriate health tests. From what I have heard people pay thousands for surgeries etc.....it would be well worth it! I've also considered shopping out of state but realistically I wouldn't have a pup shipped so I would have to travel to pick it up and there goes the savings. |
Wow...Dawn, that's a great story!!! I'm glad your little one turned out healthy :) I will definitely do a lot of research before I end up buying a pup. Thanks for sharing your experience...I'm happy it worked out well ;) |
