Help!!!! Second dog concerns For those with more than one furbaby......When you brought your second pup home, how did you introduce the puppy to the older dog? I have a male chihuahua who'll be 3 in March. Adrianna was just born and won't be home until April. Every time Luca, my chihuahua, sees 'other' dogs, he'll bark and bark. He hasn't done anything aggressive to a strange dog though. BUT....and here's the thing....when I go visit my family, my parents have another chihuahua (female), a miniature pinscher (male) and a pitbull (female). Now Luca lovessss the female pitbull. That's his woman, lol. He likes the female chihuahua as well. But the mini pinscher??? Oh nooooo. They do not like each other one bit. Now I know it's most likely the whole male alpha dog thing.....but it is kinda worrying me how Luca is going to react to his new little sister. Any advice??? |
I think it will work out just fine. When you bring your Adrianna home, she will determine her place in the pack with Luca. I introduced Ransom to our fur kids the moment we came home. Under constant supervision I watched them for days and days to make sure the adjustment was going ok. Soon the bonding took place and I have no complaints. My only advise is to NOT let them alone at all. In time if you see everyone getting along and the pack has been established you will be able to determine when it's the best time to trust them together alone. |
I let my two introduce themselves in the backyard. It was weird for the first couple of days but now they can't be apart. |
Oprah I remember on an Oprah episode.....she just got her new pups and was nervous introducing them to her cocker spaniels. She had this dog trainer come over and told her to introduce them outside but to hold the pup so the older dogs can sniff their behinds to get their scent. Do you think this works??? |
