Question about thefFirst vet visit with breeder The puppy I am buying is going in for her first vet check up tomorrow. I tried to look on different threads but didn't find what I was looking for. Is there anything I should ask the breeder specifically? I am not sure even what the vet checks at this point. I know she is getting her first shots. I just want to make sure I am not walking into any surprises because I didn't ask the right question. Thanks for all of your help :) |
Vet check For the most part, the vet only checks the obvious. He basically looks in the mouth to make sure there is not a cleft palate, checks if there is a hernia (something that is not rare in yorkie pups), checks to see if the soft-spot on the head is larger than normal, listens to the heart and lungs for any irregularities, etc. There generally is no blood-work or anything invasive done. Some defects don't even show up till several months, or even a year or two. I don't know what to recommend as far as questions to ask, except if all the above things look ok. More often than not, the pups are healthy and fine. Good luck! |
How old is the pup? Is she 12 weeks. If so , the breeder already had her first shots done and you would'nt want to repeat those and risk over-vaccination. |

The puppy is only 7 weeks tomorrow. The breeder is taking her to the vet. I am out of state and wanted to get the right questions to ask the breeder. We are driving to pick up our puppy in March. Thanks! |
