Biting
 
Hi

Every time me or my husband go to leave our 18 month old yorkie on her own when we go to work (only 3 hours) she goes to bite us - any suggestions

Well, if this was the only time she had aggression issues, I'd say make your leaving more pleasant for her. Give her a treat and a stuffed Kong to chew on. It would also help if you taught her a "go to bed" or "go to jail" command so that you aren't having to pick her up to put her where she doesn't want to be.

BUT, you've posted before about this dog growling at you and your family. I REALLY think that you need to consult a trainer or behaviorist ASAP.

Biting Puppy

My pup is 4 months old, she's not a biter, she's a CHEWER! You just have to teach them NO!! They don't know the difference between hands and paws. I guess thats how they play with other puppys, play fighting and stuff. I just say No when Mitzi does her chewing thing and distract her with one of her toys. She's getting the idea slowly. :D

I have got a new puppy 4 months older now and she does seems to bite us quite a lot too,and i have been at home all the time,it does worry me because i will start a new job soon and at least 3 hours she will have to stay alone,but i have been trying to tell her off she does bite and chews things it seems to start working as she still a puppy.
Hope your get the point soon. But if mine starts with serious problem i would call a trainner. :aimeeyork

What your puppy is doing is puppy chewing. It is normal and as they get older most outgrow that. I wouldnt worry about getting a trainer for one that young. You just need to yelp like another dog would and say no bite. Chachi went through this too and it stopped about 6 or 7 months old.

I agree that what Fafa, Ascension, and Radkoqueen have described is all normal puppy chewing/biting.

What Linda has previously described is a year and a half old dog who will growl and attempt to bite at various times. I'd recommend obedience classes at the least. Private consultation with a trainer or behaviorist would be even better!

Mini was a biter , she would go for your feet ankles and hands it was like she was trying to play but had to encourage her to play with her toys instead and the constant reminders have helped she is alot less likely to bite and when she does i say ouch! kisses and she bites gentle or not at all which is a big improvment over the way it was going i am very proud of her ..shes such a good puppy .She responds very well to a SOFT VOICE "so when you raise your voice she knows your serious
