She caught a squirrel! My daughter's little girl, Kitti-Kitti, who is JPop's litter mate, caught a squirrel over the week end. She snuck up on it, caught it and was eating it! Course, that is what the little darlings were bred for, right? It took 2 of them to get the squirrel away from her. She's good about not running off, so she gets free time outside. We're out in the country, so she alway has a critter to chase. My two, JPop and Taz, are a different story. I can't trust them at all without a leash. Will make a mad dash if they get the chance. Don't you just love 'em! |
well she thought it was a treat! :D when we first got peeka we had a cockitiel and peeka just loved to stare at him, so one day i was changing the papers and he got out and landed on the carpet, and peeka chased him and grabbed a couple of his butt feathers, and was very proud of him self  so needless to say i almost had a hearttack and we found a new home for the bird, but cockitiels are smart little baggers to they would mimic peeka's squeekie toy when they saw him and peeka i think thought he was a toy! peeka used to really bad for escaping until daddy raised his voice to him and that hurt his feeling real bad :thumbdown and peeka has never ran away again :D now if emerald would learn ;) ;) |
How big is this yorkie? That is amazing...my westie catches critters all the time too. |
What a great story. My little guy loves frogs, he thinks they are puppy treats lol. |
I would be afraid of the wild animals having rabies. |
Kitti is 10 lbs. A very healthy little girl! lol I just talked to my daughter again and she assured me that she did not eat any of the squirrel, but she did kill it. Diseases is what I worried about too. |
Yuck I hate it when animals catch critters. |
I would just die if Cali caught something! I'd be afraid to go near it! |
Goodness- talk about surprizes. You might have a problem now- she will want to catch more :D |
Chase killed a rat once, and this was when he was a lean 5 lbs. We lived in a very new subdivision, and were next to a field with tall grass. A field rat got in our garage. We knew it was there, and were trying to trap it. We would not allow Chase in the garage because we were afraid the rat would hurt him. Well one day, Chase slipped into the garage without our knowing. When I got home, there was blood on the concrete floor with little bloody paw prints everywhere. I found Chase with the dead rat. He hadn't eaten it, but it was very obvious he was very proud of himself. Could not find any scratchs or anything on Chase, so cleaned him up and watched him for a few days, but he was fine. We called him Rat Slayer for a while after that.......and we thought the rat would hurt him, guess he showed us!! :D |
well, that was a fun treat! She got to run after it first and everything! They are so funny sometimes! |
Bruce has caught numerous animals, when we were in Alaska for the summer he caught several of these nasty shrew things, here is only catch has been, the most amazing one to date in fact, a seagull. ICK!!! I hate it when he does this, but it is instinct so I cannot really scold him...It is scarry when the do it too, so quick grabbing things by the neck and breaking the neck (at least that is the Bruce method), EEEWWW!!! Funny guys! |
Gus is jealous. He wants to catch a squirrel more than anything. He sits at the window watching for them and runs to the door when he sees one. Then he keeps running back to me expecting me to open the door. Kitti-Kitti is now one of his heroes. :D |
I love all animals so if Simba caught something and actually killed it I'd probably cry...silly me I know :p |

That's not how Gus feels about it though. |
Yorkies are so wonderful. They have such spirit. Mine would love to be able to "bring meat to the table" but alas, there is nothing small enough around here for them to get their mouths on since I don't have chickens anymore. I was hatching some baby chicks in a cardboard box in the house and one fluttered out while I was at work. When I got home that afternoon, Chattie had a new squeaky toy that had lost it's squeak. I was heartbroken, it was my favorite of the six little ones. :( But I couldn't be mad a Chattie, she was so very proud of herself. The chicks moved back to the barn that very afternoon. |
As sad as it may be for the other animal, our little devils.....uh.. angels were bred to do just that; hunt down and kill. Which of all our babies wouldn't have a great ole time doing just that?! I know mine would. |
Ok maybe I have a foo foo dog, but she just stands and barks at them..lol...because last time she decided to chase something, it didn't run away from her, and she run up my leg instead..I have a scardy cat (yorkie) :D I would be worried about rabies or diseases  |
Hehehehe... it cracks me up to think our little "sweethearts" are capable of this. Whenever I forget that my dog is a terrier, she always finds some way to remind me. I used to have hamsters that would get loose in the house, and I would say "TURBIE, WHERES THE HAMSTER?? GO GET IT!!" and she would start sniffing around. They would only be lost for about a half of a day before I would find Turbie barking at something in the house, and she was never wrong!! And she would never hurt them either, which I was shocked. She loved her hamsters SOOOO much, that she would clean them and pick them up in her mouth, and move them around with her. Its great that dogs know *sometimes* when another pet (like rodents) are pets and not a chewy toy. Now any animal outside, thats a different story. hehe |
