Tails Are all yorkies tail cropped? If they are, Why? |
Tails are cropped only because that is what the AKC standard specifies. Other countries (Australia, most of Europe) have made tail cropping illegal. Some of us in YT are hopeful that either the AKC will change the standard or that it will be made illegal here too. There may have been a reason for tail cropping long ago when Yorkies (or their ancestors) were working dogs. Now it is purely for cosmetic purposes. We have discussed tail cropping in detail in other threads. you can do a search to find those threads. |
My family in Scotland have Yorkies and they have tails. I like them with their tails. I wish someone here would leave them with tails. |
My puppy has his tail and is kepping his tail. Alot of breeds here now have tails and I am thankful that they do not have to go through any pain having them twisted off or cut or anything else. |
Mine have their tails cropped and my pups do, too. Until it becomes illegal here, I will keep them cropped and follow the standard. |

:) There are more and more people at dog shows not cropping ears or docking tails. It is not a D.Q if the dog stays intact. My last poodle litter had a silver male who finished as puppy here in the U.S.. He is now in Germany. :animal36 He had an undocked tail and dewclaws. |
I am not sure but I believe it is done to follow the standard- |
The standard sucks!! I thought that YOrkies were born with cute little tails!! Booo...I'm so sad at the thought of my little Zoe in pain when they cropped his tail. |
Tail docking is illegal here in Holland so my girls have their tails. |
to be honest with you all my husband and i talked in great length about the babies when they were born and we decided to keep their tails we figured it was not worth the pain to dock them so my boys have their tails their mom and dad have their tails docked so maybe we will set a trend! :D |
