What happened to my Poor Baby!!!??? IT's been a 8 months since I went to the petstore to cut my yorkie's hair. before cutting his hair he looked like any other cute and adorable yorkie.Expect he had a few tangles in his hair.We were only planning to vut his nals.Though we then dicided we should also cut his hair I should add that the place we had brought him was also where they cut his hair.He turned out to be a healthy yorkie.anyway,so we had to leave Max there with all the other dogs.We were to come back in a few hours.Because they had to cut, wash and comd his hair. When me and my family came back it looked like a totally different pup.He no longer had long fur, instead it was like any dog...like a beagle.Really thin.It wasn't black. It was grey! No sign of even brown or yellowish. He is a tiny bit darker. Will Max ever be the same? what can I do???? Please help!!!!!!!!!! oh and sorry about my spelling mistakes. |
You havent had your dogs fur cut in eight months you said? Did you expect it to look exactly the same coming out of a haircut? |
no No I didn't expect it to look the same.I just didn't expect the COLOR to change! And it WON'T change back to black and brown. Now it's a white dog.... Oh and his fur hasn't grown since. |
How long ago was this? |
He's completley white or mostly white? Maybe a picture would help..... How old was he when you had his hair cut? Because you know, a yorkie's coat color changes as they get older. They are usually born black and brown and then anything can happen. They can get light, because that means their adult coat will be light. Some get light and then darker. They're like little rainbows. It could just be his puppy coat changing. But like I said...a picture might help. |
did you tell the groomer what type of haircut you want? looks like you got a puppy cut. that happened to me the first time, then i let his hair grow and now it's long again. smokie's coat was grey when he had the puppy cut but when i let it grow out, it came out black again....i suggest you just let it grow out and see what happens... |
When I first got my little black and tan Yorkie at 8 weeks --- I could already see the silver/grey coming in at the roots. With only a few trimmings, he is now a sliver/tan little dog. With his hair being kept short, I can say that he was silver at three months -- didn't take long. He still has some black around his ears and face (not much), and I'm sure after a few trimmings there, it will be gone also. I learned that my pup's father was silver and his mom was a blonde Yorkie. So - he's taking after his parents --mostly his dad. Keep a close eye on the roots of your Yorkie's hair - it may give you a clue as to what's going on and if any new colors are breaking through. Whatever the roots are is what's coming next! Good luck! Carol Jean |
it's was 8 months ago,since I cut this hair..Now it's more of a grey then a white.I guess I'll have to live with it............I will put a picture..soon |
He lost his dark black puppy coat so of course you can't get that back. But he will look like a Yorkie as his coat grows out and it sounds like he will be silver and light tan? Lots of Yorkies are that color. And LOTS of people have had the same grooming nightmare that you had. Next time take a picture and a list of how you want your dog cut. Don't assume anyone knows anything about a proper Yorkie cut. |
Almost all yorkies are born black and tan...look like baby rotties. The coat starts to change color 4-6 months of age. Since hair grows from the roots, you don't see the color change on the length part of the coat but toward the skin. The longer the coat grows, the more you will see the silver (or blues and commonly referred). What you described is the puppy color. Not all yorkies stay the black and tan. It depends on what is in the lines. Now, the depth of blue can also vary. Some will be a dark steel blue and some a silvery blue. The colors you are now seeing will be his adult colors. |
The exact same thing happened to Bruce and I in September. His coat is only starting to get back to normal, well at least in length and fullness. Some dogs just have heartier coats that grow quicker. The black never returned though, that is because it was his puppy coloring, now he is sort of a blond...He is an adorable silver/blond though...Trust me it will look better eventually... |
My Tia was all black on her body and due to her being matted we had to have her totally shaved at 4 months old and underneath it was all silver & whitish and has stayed that way(silvery white). I think she looks adorable. I have 3 & all 3 started out black and only one (Lexi)stayed black & is now 2 years old. The other one (Max)is like greyish. Thats the fun of yorkies, you never know what they will end up looking like! |
My husbands aunt has a yorkie and she was black and tan until her first cut at the start of the summer when she was 6 months old (she is now 6 years old). She had her shaved so that she wouldent get hot (she had a really heavy coat) and what do you know, she was grey underneath all of that black! lol. The black never came back (obviously) but the grey was also beautiful! Once it started getting long again she looked really pretty:) |
