Too Late for Pee Pads??? Jake, (my three month old male yorkie) is a little "pee body". He is peeing constantly. I can't take him out enough. I have not used pee pads with him but was wondering if it was too late to start. He doesn't have a particular spot to go, he just goes anywhere. I know their bladders are small and males are harder to train but he is going EVERYWHERE all the time. I can't keep track of all the spots. Any advice? |
I don't think it's to late but I'm no expert! It's worth giving it a try. Just make sure to praise him anytime he uses it. I give my girl a treat a alot of praise and now she looks forward to using it. |
Also I remember a previous post where someone said it is easier with a male if you can put something in the middle of the pad for them to aim for. (Coke bottle) |
I am training mine to also use the pee pads and they are 1 year old and used to going outside. When its bad weather they wont go outside. |
Hey, it's worth a try, I'd go for it he's still young. Good Luck! :) |
Where should I put the pee pads? In one room or all over the house? |
My little guy uses the pee pads and outside. I put his pad in our bathroom. I think if you leave it in one spot its better, they know where it is all the time. Make sure to praise, praise, praise him !! He is contained to my bedroom and bathroom during the day while I am gone, and whem I get home he pees outside, but I still leave a pad out incase we get busy. I use the washable hosptal pads they use in the hospital, they abosrb really well and last a long time. Also, they don't stain, I wash them with bleach. Anyway, hope this helps, and good luck !! :) |
Where do I get the hospital pads at? |
I got them from a hosptial supply store. I will look for a link on the web. |
I don't think he's too old.. He should catch on. They are scented to attract dogs. I don't know if that really works or not, but Daisy has never had a problem using them.. I actually just ordered the washable ones.. Waiting for them to get here to see how they work.. I leave Daisy's in just one spot so that she knows to go to the same spot all the time.. Good Luck! |
Found one, I use the ones with the blue backing, they are cheaper because they don't have a design. I get the bigger one, because I have 2 fur babies. http://www.northshorecare.com/underpadswash1.html |
Here's the site that I got mine from yesterday. Someone else recommended them to me.. I can't remember who though.. http://www.piddlepads.com |
Maybe confining him to a room or xpen with the pee pad will help him get the idea... they usually don't pee where they sleep so if you have a sleeping area and then further away the pee pad... he will probably get the idea. All my yorkies have figured out what the pee pads are for... Good luck. :) |
Hes not too old at all infact hes at a perfect age to start.I read that not much should be expected of any pup under 12weeks and that training should start AFTER that age. Before that they dont understand much at all. Both of mine use the pads (well Jess does,Lady would rather use the floor! lol) and I find that its the best method if you live in an apartment like I do. |
Another idea is to check for a bladder infection... when Murph was young , he had alot of them and pee-ed all over. Also , they should check for kidney stones , they can be fatal. If your guy is eating poo,, too there is a good chance that he has an infection. Collect the sample in a clean bottle and get it to the vet right away. m&M Yorkies |
