can yorkies drink milk i had a bowl of cereal and was just wondering if my belle could drink milk 1 % |
Milk is not good for dogs.. I don't ever give milk to either of my furbabies. It can led to diarreha. |
what do they like to snack on that humans snack on |
Milk is not necessary to a dog's diet. I have given it to my dogs as a treat from time to time. However, like people some dogs cannot tolerate milk because they do not produce an enzyme called lactase. They cannot digest cow's milk properly and they get diarrhea or gastric upset when they drink it. |
like people, some dogs are lactose intolerant, some are not. i, for instance am mildly lactose intolerant. i'm okay with 2%, 1% or skim milk so long as i have it with something else. whole milk or milk alone does funny things to my stomach. i give my puppy a little bit of milk (like a tsp) with his kibbles sometimes to encourage him to eat. he's had no adverse side effects. |

You can give cheerios, fruits/veggies (no grapes), rice (plain), ive heard of people giving yogurt or cottage cheese. I generally try not to give any dairy, corn, wheat, salty or sugery foods. Just keep an eye out for any upsets like vomiting or diarrhea. My Yorkie loves icecream so much she will get up in my face for it (not like her at all), so thats when I allow her to have dairy/suger, luckily I dont eat icecream that often. |
I have question, if milk is not ok, why is cottage cheese? or cheese. It is from cow's milk. |

My vet said that it is okay to put a little milk on dry kibble for small puppies to encourage them to eat. However, I don't give any of our pets milk to drink. |
Yes, Yorkies can drink milk BUT they should not have much. And, if you want to share your cereal with your dog, start using Lact-aid milk (skimmed or whatever does not matter. Just use the fat content you have always used) The important thing is to get 100% lactose reduced milk. Do not give them milk that has sugar added as we use on some cereals. Yorkies like Cheerios, but I do not buy snacks. I just use a different dog food as treats. Actually, I use Iams Daily Dental Mini-chunks as their treats. They love it but I don't think it has the quality that I would want to feed as their diet.. |
Milk Can cause ulcers? I have so heard. Ours do not get ANY people food. Better safe than sorry I say. .....justus |
Y ou can give them cottage cheese if it dont bother them, chester loves it. |

I have a quart of Lactose-free milk in my fridge all the time. I especially starting using it for my 17-year-old cat that was losing weight and couldn't eat well. Milk was one of the few foods that she would even eat at that time. My dogs have a little milk every once in a while. They like it, and it has never bothered either one of them. They have never gotten diarrhea from it. But --this milk is lactose-free. I have never seen any reason to give my dogs much milk. When they are thirsty - they love their water. And few of the foods they eat need added milk. But - if you want to give your dog some milk occasionally - get lactose-free milk - and let them have some once in a while. Carol Jean |

Premium Milk from GNC yes, i do so they can have a supplement of more vitamins and minerals from milk! i use GNC Pets Ultra Mega Premium Milk Replacer for Puppies - GNC PETS 1020873 - GNC and my yorkie loves the taste too!! i give it to her three times a day (every after meal), then water afterwards to wash down the creamy formula in her throat. |
well, ive read the cheerio thing and my dude did like them, also read that carrots are ok. But im a little leary of ANY people food. Im sure there are some that are ok, but I dont know i wouldnt ask the vet for people safe foods to give. Not saying that any bodys suggestion are bad, dont get me wrong. Its just sometimes we share things we do w "our" dogs personally but might not always be good for any dog. So if in doubt check with a vet. I have given my dogs some bits of people food and I regret hand feeding him anything like that because he now wants any thing u eat> I know we love em and its hard to refuse that face, but to a new dog owner I say dont start the habbit of feeding them off the plate. I will share what my vet said. He told me that yorkies and minni schnauzers are the worst for getting pancreitis issues. He said not to give them cold cuts, hot dogs bacon or any fatty meats etc. It can make them sick and the pancreitis I think can really take the fellas down. |
Hi all...great info on this thread.....Teddi my 5 month puppy is quite difficult to feed...she would like milk on her kibble and my question was...can i give her a little Lactose-free skimmed milk once per day?....she drinks water as her main fluid...but wont eat the dry food very well....I have her on Orijen puppy dry and a little milk might encourage her to do better....:animal36 :D |

chester likes bananas, pineapple, little bits of cheese, low fat cottage cheese, and honey nut cherrios, and green beans |
Sgt C...what do you mean by cold cuts?:confused  |
I have given milk to my previous dogs. Same situations with the cereal bowl. Neither of them had any upset or issues. Emma doesn't like milk so won't go near it. Not even ice cream. |
