Scared of Vacuum Kobe is petrified of our vacuum cleaner and always has been. He shakes so badly. Does anybody else have this problem ? |
YES!!! I've had Coco since May last year and she still shakes horribly, cries and goes and hides under the couch, bed, dresser or her daddy's legs. I don't know why. I've tried holding her while I vaccuum so she can see it's no big deal. I've tried leaving it out so she won't be afraid anymore, but she just hides the whole time. I don't know what to think. Maybe it's the noise. |
My pom is deathly afraid of it and runs around the house with her tail down when I vacuum. Cali picked up on her fear and now they run together glued at the hip. |
Bruce is exactly the opposite...Whenever I vacum he trys to pounce the vacum, barks at it and thinks it is yet another toy for him to play with. It really does make vacuming a lot more difficult, because he practically underneath it! |
Willy attacks the vacuum, he grabs the front rub strip in his mouth and shakes his head like crazy, he has pulled it out of my hand on more than one occasion. When he sees me getting the vacuum out he stands on guard & as soon as I turn it on he begins to attack. :D Desiree |
Our Tiffany R.I.P didn't care for them either but would just leave the room when my wife entered it with the vacuum, face it...to them it's a large ugly noisy creature thats moving around in their territory. One of my earliest memorys was of my mother vacuuming the house when i couldn't have been more than 2 or 3 and remember it scared the livin' beejesus out'a me!! :D |
the minute i open the closet door lexi starts barking, she knows that vacuum is coming out.. and she is non stop from there until im done |
First time I ran the vacuum, Gracie ran under a chair and we had to lift up the chair to get her out. Almost 2 years later and she is getting better. She shakes sometimes, but that is it. I have to vacuum so I decided to help Gracie get over her fear. I let her know that Mommy has to vacuum and I say "Gracie, noise" before I turn it on. I talk to her while I vacuum telling her that it is ok. I also left the vacuum out, in the middle of the room for a few days to let her get use to it. She now knows that this big monster will not hurt her and that mommy will protect her. |
They use to be when they were younger. Now they follow me around room to room trying to bit it. Makes it a little difficult vacuuming! |
I have tried to leave the vacuum in the room. He will not go near it. If it is in a doorway he will not leave that room. I have tried talking to him while I vacuum to reassure him. And I have also held him and talked to him while I vacuum. Nothing helps. I still use it when he is around hoping that someday he will get over this fear. But my other family members will not use it unless someone is their to take him elsewhere. |
Nope, Tigger LOVES to bark at it and even bite it as it's going around the room. He'll pounce at it, bark and bite at it, and then when you turn it off and make it go towards him he gets scared. go figure. |
Trace is another attacker. He's pretty certain vaccum cleaners can suck up a dog. Enough barking and growling, his job's done...THAT thing is back in the closet where it belongs  |
From VeterinaryPartner.com, here's a way to help your pup over this: Vacuum cleaners make weird noises. Their use involves a person thrusting the thing around the room in gestures that wouldn't make any sense to a dog. The concept of cleaning a floor, other than by eating any food spilled on it, would also be foreign to a dog's way of thinking. There's not much about a vacuum cleaner for a dog to like! The occasional herding dog will chase it because it moves, and some dogs will "attack" or threaten it because it isn't acting right! Adding treats to vacuuming time can work through this fear. If the dog is really traumatized about the device, you may need to start with setting up the vacuum cleaner and giving the dog treats in the next room. Over several sessions you can move the treat-giving closer, never faster than the dog's comfort level can handle. Do the process with the vacuum off, next with the vacuum cleaner running, and finally with the vacuum cleaner moving. While going through this program, put the dog in a different place whenever you vacuum so as not to undo all the good conditioning by scaring the dog again. |

OMG, Biscuit is sooooo scared of the vacuum and so is my cat. When I bring it out I say "Run Biscuit, it's your nemesis." They're both gone once they hear it coming. |
Maddie is so deathly afraid of the vacuum that I just hate to even get it out to use it. I don't vacuum as much as I did before Maddie came along, because I hate to stress her out. I've even tried holding her while I vacuum so she can see it's not going to hurt her, but I don't think anything will make her overcome the fear of the vacuum. |
Princess didn't like it at first, now she thinks it's something to ride on :D |
Oh well Max attacks the vacuum he is soo funny to watch- |
Baynon, my silly Biewer climbs on top and will try to stand while I vacumn! All the yorks run like heck!! Got to get some pics of him doing that..never had a dog not scared of ANY machine you turn on! He thinks they are great fun!! |
Gracie is petrified  When the vacuum is turned on, she runs straight to my bedroom and gets on the bed to hide from it. |
my cousins dog loves it! they have the one that goes on by itself, i don't know what its called but its like a robot and it vacumes on its own. but when it starts up, she goes and sits on it and you see her coming through the hallway on the thing! lol, its really funny to watch cause it looks like shes in a parade riding around, and no one knows when it will start up so its kind of a suprise! |
My dogs all run for the hills, well that is except for one. Yip the smallest one in the :D bunch cocoa is the meanest one in bunch or aT least he thinks so... |
Duece is afraid of the vac too. He is also afraid of the broom. He will start barking and charge at both but when he gets to it, it backs off and starts over again. Its actually funny! :D |
Yes !! spanky gets so scared of the vacum he hides, I think he thinks it will eat him or something lol, he just gets so scared :) |

Gus will bark at it when it's off but the moment I turn it on he goes and hides if it's next him. Ever since the vacume sucked up a sock and made this loud ugly sound Gus hasn't been too fond of it. He won't shake or anything like that, he'll just go to the other room or stay behind me and stays clear of it's path. |
I've got one of those adjustable suction vacuum cleaners. When I first had to use it around my little Mitzi, I turned wayyyyy down low. I just let it stand there so she could sniff it and examine it, and then I moved slowly around the house. Gradually It's getting higher and higher. She seems to be Ok with it, and just tries to play with it now while I'm cleaning. |
