Greenies What is your thought about Greenies? A friend of mine said that her vet recommended them for her Yorkie...but I was wondering what everyone else thought? |
Ummm...I think that I read somewhere recently where there was a lawsuit against the company that makes Greenies. Too many dogs have died from intestinal blockage because greenies do not break down in the system as the company advertises. |
I think the FDA is investigating 'greenies'... do a search on this forum for greenies and it will show up. It's something with greenies not fully digesting and causing problems. Trixie loves greenies so we're kind of bummed. |
No Greenies for me and my friends. They can cause permanent damage to the GI tract or death.. |
I am so glad you all discussed this, I had no idea. I am going to pick up the greenies I have in the house right now. http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q...awsuit&spell=1 THANK YOU! |
No greenies for my dog. :thumbdown |
Do a search, and you'll find plenty of threads on YT about Greenies.... :p |
i had read about greenies being bad so i have never gotten them but no way i will now! |
I've given them to my babies twice......diarrhea both times :( |
Ok what I have is Nutri Dent, same problems as Greenies or no? |
thanks for your help. I went to petsmart tonight and I wanted to know what you all thought before I bought any. I went with the suggestions I found on the searches. Thanks a bunch. |
From what I have read, greenies are a problem if the dog does not chew them properly. Edie gets one greenie per week. I watch her eat it, and she seems to chew thoroughly and she digests them well. They do make her poops green, but she does not get diahreah (sp?). They might not be for every dog. However, nutritionally, vets will tell you they are excellent. |
Vets make a profit My vet sells greenies at his office. I sent him a letter that I copied from here about how terrible greenies are, and the next time I saw him, he thanked me. He said that he will, however, continue to sell greenies, as they are decent dental help for dogs who do not get their teeth brushed by their owners. My letter did make him have a training session with his staff, and they were all instructed to council anyone who buys them on the possible dangers, and to make sure they monitor their dogs while chewing. :( My vet said in his 15 years of experience, he has removed multiple things from dog guts, but never greenies. |
My Pet Trainer thinks Greenies will soon be pulled off the market. She has heard of many incidents with them and recommends not using them. |
How about the greenie bits? These are small chips of greenies. My two babies love them mixed with their Nutro....do I need to stop this too? I gave them the whole greenies for a while, but my older one (2yrs) through it up one day; so no more of those! Please give me your thoughts on the lil bits. |
