talk about irksome! i was at the dog park today and i overheard a college age girl talking to other pup owners and when they asked her what kind of dog her's was.. she said it was a japanese chin for the petstore. :thumbdown she said she had a yorkie before this pup and that she couldn't handle the grooming so she gave the yorkie away! then she went on to say how she just couldn't kepe up with the grooming and how she "loved" yorkies but she thought they needed too much time. well fricken duh! but i hope she realizes that any dog takes time. i feel this new pup of hers wil just end up being given away and then next story she tell will be... "oh i love japanese chins but they are so needy so i gave mine away and just got this New pup from...." i seriously wish you had to have like an owners license before they let you take care of the pup. and if for an invalid reason you "gave the pup away" you are no longer allowed to own any animal.. ever! grrr  she's lucky i didn't hear the rest of her conversation otherwise i may have been arrested for battery and assault. thank you for letting me rant |
I agree! The girl should have did her research first! But no dog is PERFECT! I think yorkies come pretty darn close though! |
That is sad....but this happens more often than not. I don't know if people just do not realize what having a puppy consists of or what....I mean, do they think they can get one and just bring it out to play with when they feel like it? - they should get a plush pet for that! BUT hopefully that little Yorkie is at a better home now! I hope this little Chin works out for her (they need special attention and grooming also)....if not, maybe it too will go to a better home. Hopefully this girl will learn or maybe her parents/roommate/someone can talk some since into her before she does it again! |
from the looks of her... to me it doesn't look like she really cares about anything but herself. i wish peopel would take the time and do the research and NOT buy from petstores and not buy on a whim. i hope the best for the Chin but i doubt she'll be keeping it for long since the puppy fur will be gone soon to be replaced with... longer hair. poor pups |
That happens here ALOT! People buy puppies for their kids for christmas or birthdays or guys get their girlfriends a pup for valentines day etc,and a month later they are thrown into the street, given away or just sold with lame exuses.I found a little black pup a little while ago and I also found its owner who said that she didnt want him anymore because he pooped and peeŽd everwhere! My mother in law has him now,if not,the poor thing would have been hit by a car or starved to death:( Some people seem to think that 8 week old pups can be trained in 5 minutes and that no dog should need brushing, combing, washing, let alone love, time and dedication. Then when they see what its really like they act shocked, like the pup is broken or something..Its sad,but it happens alot:( |
It's sad, people just don't understand they need to do lots of research, not just Yorkies, any Breed before they go out and find one. They are yours for a lifetime, not just until your tired of them. I just don't get some people. |
I am one of those people who bought a pup (Japanese Chin/Poodle mix) on a whim from a family owned and run pet store in my area. Knowing what I know now, I will never do it again, but I can't say that I regret it as I love my little guy so much. I completely agree that people really need to research what they are getting into. What is so sad about this post is that she didn't learn. She got rid of her Yorkie because it required too much grooming, but then ran out and bought another long haired dog, but with even more grooming problems. Yes, Yorkies require a lot of grooming, but at least they don't shed. Japanese Chins require just as much grooming and are heavy shedders! I wonder how long she will keep him after figuring this out! :( |
Yet ANOTHER Reason I wish the sale of live animals in Pet Stores was BANNED - it would sure put an end to impulse shopping....most people who buy in a pet store do it on the spur of the moment - you can BET they wouldn't bother to research out good breeders......and if there were NO pet stores selling live animals - those evil puppy mills would have a SERIOUS dent in their profits and stop mass breeding for profit ! |
This teen sounds like she wants to be like a Paris Hilton or Brittany Spears. She wants to have a small dog for looks. Sounds like she doesn't want to take care of it. That is the problem with advertising celebrities with their dogs. Who takes care of them?? |
She is one reason there are so many furbabies in rescue shelters. I wish there was some way classes could be offered on the various breeds out there and potential future furbaby owners would be required to take the classes, pass, and then show a card (or something) to prove they've passed and understand the the time and caring that will go with that particular breed. I would like to ask her one question though.....Since she gave her Yorkie away due to the attention they require, what is she gonna do if she ever has kids?? Give them away cause it takes her 6 months to potty train them??? Or because they are too demanding?? |

Perhaps I'm neglecting Olivia, but I don't think that one yorkie is that much work. I keep her hair fairly short and only need to brush it every other day- even then it's not really all that knotty. I'd say that Olivia's hair is a good 3-4", too, so it's not buzzed short or anything. She gets a bath once a week in the summer and every 2 weeks in the winter. All-in-all, maybe an hour to an hour and a half spent on grooming in one week. If that's too much work for her, I think a dog in general might be too much work for her. |
