Doesn't Like Treats...so weird! My yorkie is the only dog I have ever met that doesn't like treats. Is it just him, or do any of you have this problem?? We want to start teaching him some tricks, but how do we do that when he doesn't like treats?? We first started giving him treats when he was a good boy outside, but he would just play with them and never eat them. Even now, we give him a treat sometimes, but he just throws it around the room and chases it. It is quite amusing, but how are we supposed to teach him tricks if he doesn't eat treats??!! |
What kind of treats are you using? Mine just love pupcorn! and will do anything for them. ;) |
We have tried Pupperoni, Milk Bones, those small "T-Bone" treats, and things of the sort. |
Daisy loves yogurt drops. Actually, Daisy loves just about any kind of treat... She's a little piggy! :D |
We are using honey nut cheerios and pieces of her actural food (kibble) for training treats. You might try that. My 13 week old girl is going to puppy kindergarden. So far we have learned sit, lay down, stay (for 2 seconds maybe) and to walk beside mommy (heel). It is amazing how fast they can learn even at such an early age. You might give that a try. Charley hates all dog biscuits and doggy choc drops  In the end for training treats I just use small pieces of cheese and small pieces of meat. Sharon,Charley & Melody xx |
Cujo my older male has never liked treats. He doesn't play with them but will run around the house looking for a place to stash it. He's also the only yorkie I know who doesn't like cheese. |
Try yoqurt drops its a good treat and my dogs love them. |
Ted will eat treats sometimes, but it takes more than that to motivate him to learn. We use either boiled chicken breast cut in diced size pieces or string cheese. |
I would try Cheerios.rincess loves them :D |
Rowdy doesn't like treats either! He used to eat the yogurt drops, but he's stopped eating them. I keep forgetting to get some cheerios, maybe that will do the trick. He will eat bits of boiled chicken though. |
Mojo would rather have a toy over a treat, so we buy toys when they go on sale or if they are just plain cute...I have TONS....then we rotate them every now and then for something "new". He does like pupcorn (comes and sits and licks his lips when he sees them), cheerios and cheese (but he has a sensitive tummy so that is a special treat). I tried a Bully Stick from PetsMart and he doesn't like it. I have a list of other treats to try, just haven't gotten them it. |
Chloe doesn't like treats either. I have tried every dog treat on the market as well as Cheerios. I haven't tried popcorn yet. I read on another thread about dogs liking salt free goldfish crackers. What exactly are yogurt drops and where would I find them? |
I would try either yogurt drops or cheerios....theses are my girls favorites and both are healthier than most treats!!! |
My Aussie doesn't like treats either. When we were in puppy kindegarten, his teacher said she had never seen a dog before that wasn't motivated by food. She suggested boiled pieces of chicken or hot dog weenies cut into little bitty pieces. We tried both and he didn't care too much for the chicken (weirdo) but does like the weenies. So I use them for treats and training. I might try the cheerios or yogurt drops also. My Yorkie so far has eaten just about anything I have given him except for one treat so far. |
