Dog Pregnancy Question I'm new to this board and have a question. My Yorkie is pregnant and I was reading that when there temperature drops they should deliver within 24 hrs. What is the correct temperature to watch for, one website says when it drops below 100 and another says below 99. Yesterday her temperature was 99.4, today it's 99.0 and we still haven't noticed any signs of going into labor. We figure she's appx. 63 day's today. We had her in at the vet this past Saturday and they did x-ray's and they said they see at least one puppy so we are assuming that she is really pregnant . Can someone help?? Do you think she's close to delivering? I'd appreciate it. |
If you were to ask me, I would tell you it looks like that time is fast approaching! Good luck! |

. My experience is when it drops below 98.4 labor should begin within 24 hours. This has been true on all but one or two dogs of mine in 40 years. However if she is only carrying one or two puppies I would watch her every minute now and not let her go more than 30 to 45 minutes if she goes into labor until you get her to the vet in case they are to big for her to birth naturally. Hope this helps- It sounds like she is getting close as she is going down. |
Dog Pregnancy Question I took her temperature last night and now it's up to 99.7. Is this normal for the temperature to jump up and down? |

Yes it is. I have one that is due the same as yours and she is doing the same, up and down. My experience is they will do this then go sorta up then down and then puppies  I too am a nervous wreck and I have been thru this so many times I can't count. Every time and every dog is a little different though so just keep her on your mind and like mine which is set up here in my office right under my eye. Good luck and I am praying they will both be fine. |
When it drops to the low 98 degree range and stays there for a few hours and starts to go back up then you should have a good idea that labor will start soon. |

Did your vet advise you on anything about only one or two pups? This is very good advice not only for the major reason of the pup could be too big, but also sometimes when there only one pup she may not produce enough hormones to get her into good labor to deliver regardless of size. Good luck and post pics as soon as you get your baby(s) :D And welcome!! I posted while my girls were in the process of giving birth and everyone here is so unbelievably helpful!! :D You are going to love it here! :p |
Dog Pregnancy Question Thank you all for your help. I will keep you updated. |
Pregnancy Question-Need Help!! Sadie's temperature dropped down to 98.5 on Sunday and has been around the same temp the last 3 day's and still no labor. Now my mom noticed that she has a green discharge is this something to be worried about. She's going to call the vet as soon as they open but I'm just worried that it's something bad. Does anyone know what causes this discharge? |
If Sadie is healthy and don't show signs of distress . The puppies will be there very soon . |
It is very normal for this to happen.....Peyton drop and then went back up for about a week. then it happend in the afternoon her temp. was 98.1 and then the puppies came. She had two and then 3 hours after her last one the other 2 came. Just keep a GOOD eye on her and look for her nesting and nesting. |

Dog Pregnancy Question We called the vet and he suggested we bring her in. We just got back and he still felt the puppy and did a ultrasound and there is still a fetal hear beat and said to expect labor soon. Thank god nothing happened we were really worried. Thanks for your responses. |
Let us know when the little ones will arrive . |
Good luck with the whelping. Do you have mentor or a midwife who is helping you through this? It sounds like it might be your first litter and it is always advisable to have an experienced breeder present in my opinion, just to be safe. There be a breeder from here even who is close. Do no be afraid to ask for help. |
can't wait to see more little babies here!!! Hope everything goes well, and we have a happy healthy mom, and happy babies! |
Dog Pregnancy Question Still no puppies. We talked to the breeder on Friday and she said to give her through the weekend but Sadie still hasn't gone into labor. We called the vet and they want us to bring her in for a C-Section, is that necessary right now?? Can't they induce her first? I just can't believe she hasn't had the puppy yet we've been a nervous wreck for two weeks now waiting. |
Imo.... It would be a good thing to go see your vet with Sadie . Pregnancy most be taken very carefully . |
The Puppy Died Well, we took Sadie into the vet this morning for a C-Section. My mom just got a call from the vet and the puppy died. They said they worked on it for quite a while but there was nothing they could do. Sadie is doing good we can pick her up in a couple of hours, but I'm sure she's going to be lost with out her puppy to take home with her. We are very devistated, I'm wondering if the vet let her go too long and maybe we should have had the C-Section last week. I guess we will never know now, we had Sadie fixed since they had her cut open anyways we didn't want her to go through surgery again and because this pregnancy didn't go good and the previous pregnancy her body absorbed. Thank you all for your help during her pregnancy. |
