Too good to be true? There was and ad in my paper today for a female AKC pup for $975 and a 9 yr old Female for $150, both listed in the same ad. I have been looking for another female, but is this too old? I wonder what problems come with age, and could I afford the care? I placed a call, no answer, but will try back again. In the mean time, what do ya'll think? I have a 21 month old yorkie and a 8 1/2 month old daughter. Is a 9year old yorkie too set in their ways to adapt to the "little ones"? Is there problems that I should be aware of when they were used for breeding and not just a pet???? Do ya'll think this is too good to be true????? |
hmmm, sounds like a good deal. But I would have to go and see them first. Please keep us posted. |
I called back and got the machine, so I left a message. I want another yorkie so bad and I can afford $150 but the age really makes me nervous! |
if they are selling the 9 yo female now, she may have been used for breeding in the past. My concern would be if she has been used for breeding, would she have been kept in a kennel vs the "home environment" and is she housebroken and ok with small children. If the female was raised in a kennel, there may be some other training issues, like barking, etc. But all this may be moot if this is not the case and it is just a family dog. |
Try to find out WHY they are selling a 9yr old dog. |

 Ok, the lady called back. She was her mother's yorkie, used for breeding. She just had her last litter and they can't care for her anymore (they have 2 yorkies and another dog) The Yorkie only has her eye teeth, the vet pulled the rest when she was a pup for no reason but she still eats hard food. She is kept out back with the other dogs, not house trained and weights 8 pounds and is overweight, needs to be put on a diet. She had to take another call at work and is going to call me right back... what do ya'll think? I value your opinion!!! |
It seems like it might be a bit much.. Did you ask about children? I would be really concerned about her with kids. (If you have any) I know that was one of your concerns.. |
She said that she would be perfect for someone with kids because she is so large.... I am having my doubts, this may not be the one for me. The teeth bother me and the fact that she is an "outdoor" dog. I do not have a fence. Gracie allways goes out with me and never runs away. She runs into the neighbors yard on occation, only when their daughter is out because she loves to play with her (and vice versa). |
Go with your gut instinct.. It's almost always right!! Just because the dog is bigger doesn't mean it's the best for kids.. It may not be able to tolerate small children.. Remember, go with the gut and let us know what you decide! |
I told the lady "no thanks", the work would be more then I am willing to take on at the moment, she said she still has the puppy but I told her that I don't want to spend that kind of money on a dog, I would rather use the money for care and for spoiling them rotten!!! Thanks for the advice, and I am going to keep looking!!!! |
You should go with your instinct. These people sound kind of shady. Did I read this right (this female just had her last litter at 9 years of age)? That's just cruel. I feel bad for this poor thing and hope someone caring and loving takes her in but IMO I think she would be a lot of work and I don't think i'd trust her around kids due to the fact she was "kept out back". Poor thing :( Don't worry you'll find the right one! :) |
