life preservers just wondering if i should get lexi one for this summer... my new boyfriend has a 40 foot boat and i will be on it all summer long with my lexi.. my mom is terrified and is screaming at me and wants me to buy a life jacket for her. i did go online and confused about what to get.. they have life floats and life jackets... any suggestions please... |
Princess has a vest, it's bright yellow. When we take the boat out she has to wear it, or stay home. She isn't crazy about it, but she loves to go for rides. I found it at the boat store my husband goes to. Men and their toys!!!! I laughed when I found it, I had no idea they made them that small. :) |
We have a boat so I bought both of my dogs life vests. I got them at petsmart and they fit perfectly. |
thanks gina, i guess i should get one huh? shes going to hate it... do i really need one for her, i know she could swim |
question for those of you that have vest can I ask how much your dog weighs? I'm looking for one aslo. Thanks Lisa |
I would be afraid without a life preserver that they wouldnt come up and gett to swim. I have heard of dogs drowning on here and would not want to take the chance. |
You MUST, I repeat Must get a life jacket. They are fairly cheap under $15. We have a boat and though you think they can not fall off or jump off they can. First of all they are so light that if you hit a big wave etc, it could throw them. My little Max jumped into the lake after a goose. So you never know. |
Here's one kind of like her's http://www.sitstay.com/store/equip/eq5.shtml Much better price too!, I'll have to go out back and see if I can find her's. The weather has been so nice, I'll have to tell my Husband to get it ready. :) |
We have one but it is a little too big and I think I ordered the x-tra small. Poor thing just rolled over on his back with it on. |

I think it would be a good idea to be on the safe side. I do not do the boating thing but we do the swimming pool thing!!! I took Weeg a few times swimming, but i was constantly watching him!!!! SO now I too am going to get a life vest to be safe!!!! |
1 Attachment(s) COsmo has one it is called a fito float. I got it from jefferspet.com it was fast shipping and not that expensive. |

Yea, Princess can swim too. She's out by the pool all summer, but out on the boat its different. You just never know, sometimes the wakes out there can get pretty big. I make her wear her's just to be on the safe side. :) When you do go out, everyone is going to stop to look at the cute puppy!!! I think my husband was upset a few times when we went out. People used to stop to look at his boat, now they stop to look at his little girl LOL Too Funny!!! |

whats the difference between the fido float and a regular life vest? |
I think it is just the brand name. It has a strap on the bottom that you can tighten and it zips on the top it even has handles on the top so just in case you can lift them out of the water with it. http://www.jefferspet.com/ssc/produc...MB56T7DWPH92RD |
oh my they are so cheap at jeffers... can you tell me what size to get for lexi her chest is 13 inches , a little pork chop. her neck is 8 inches |
I got Cosmo a tiny he was about 4 to 5 lbs. How much does she weigh. |
around 8 or 9 lbs i think |
I will go see how tight it is on cosmo now bc that is what size he is now too. |
I think you need to get a small. I got a tiny for Jewels she is 6lbs and a I am pretty certain a small for Chachi he is 9 lbs. |
thanks, i will get a small |
I was going to suggest the xsmall becuase my tiny still almost fits Cosmo just little too small to be zipped up and he is 13 inches around his tummy, :) |
just reading the sizes xm - 16" to 20" sm - 20" to 24" i think they mean the girth so if thats what it is, then lexi is a xs. her girth is 13 or 14 and her length is 12" im confused..this bites |
Okay I just got Chachis out and its an xsmall sorry. I can get it zipped up but it is extremely tight it took effort to get the zipper up. |
  I have a vest for my jack russell already, now i need to get one for nina for the boat this summer. Its alot safer because if she ever jumped over you just shut off engine and grab with boat hook. Thants why the loop is on top of the vest. She rolls over in a sweater so i can imagine her in this jacket this summer, ill have to pull her around in it. :D Patty and Nina |
PetSmart sells them....that's where I bought Sully's. He doesn't mind wearing it and it really does help him float in the water! It's well worth the money and it's not even that expensive! You must get one! Plus they're so darn cute wearing their life jackets, LOL! |
Edie has one by Outward Hound. We used to LIVE on our 35 foot boat in the summer here in Maine. Here's the funny thing: Edie's life vest has NEVER GOTTEN WET. The water is pretty cold up here. I usually kept it on her when we were underway. At anchor, in a calm harbor, I took it off. Edie has pretty good sea legs and goes almost everywhere on the boat. I do suggest that you bring Lexi's crate with you so you have somewhere secure to put her if necessary. One time we were in VERY ROUGH seas (have you seen the "Perfect Storm??") and I kept Edie in her crate in a secure place. Hopefully you won't have to deal with that. Also, if you decide to leave the boat and go out to dinner or something, she will be much safer in the crate than wandering around the boat. |
