Groomers tomorrow and I have a question??? Am I supposed to let the hair in between her eyes grow out for her topknot, or is it supposed to be trimmed??? I had it trimmed the first time she went to the groomers, but then I noticed in a lot of yorkie pictures with long coats, that part was long too. What to do? Thanks! |
Honestly, it's all up to you. Many owners come in and want me to trim the hair there. Majority though do want it to grow out so they can have the cute topknot. I grow Bounce's out so he has a topknot. It's just whatever you prefer. |
2 Attachment(s) I used to keep Lizzy's all long and it went up into a top knot really well. Last summer I decided to give her a short summer cut and I had the hair between her eyes cut(shaved) short. It look so much cleaner and neater I must admit. But, the downside to that is you almost have to keep it that way from then on. I decided during winter I would grow it out and that was a disaster. She looked so scruffy, kinda like a porcipine between her eyes. I could see that the growing out process was going to take wwwaaayyy to long, and I could not bear to see her looking so unkept for that long so I gave up and had it cut again. Now she has more of a Westie cut and I think it is realy more practical for me. Although I really do miss her with the up doos. This is a picture of her with the cut she has now. |
Carter has only been to the groomer's one time right after we got him in December. They took it upon themselves to shave his nose, cut him eyebrows and cut between his eyes. I was disappointed! We in the growing out stage now. I don't care how long it takes. We're letting it grow out! It is so easy to put in the top knot every morning. Carter sits still for grooming each morning. He even went get his brush from my daughter's room this morning and took it to his blanket where we do our morning grooming and waited for me to tend to him! Once it is cut, it takes a long time to grow it back. If you're unsure what you want to do, don't cut it now and decide later. |
I agree with you Littlelizzy! I've been trying to grow out Mason's hair between the eyes for 3 months now and it's soooooo annoying! He definitely has had the "porcupine" thing going on between the eyes and I have been trying to lay the hair flat by using hair gel - but the hair is stubborn and it keeps covering his eyes. I am starting to think short hair is better, clean, and convenient! |
2 Attachment(s) Lexi went for grooming a few weeks ago. I gave them a picture of a yorkie with a puppy cut. Here are pictures of before and after. They cut all around her eyes, her nose, and her whiskers. Now that it's been a few weeks, when she kisses me I feel like she has a beard (those whiskers are growing out). I think it's just a matter of preference. While I like to have a bow in her hair, she doesn't tolerate it well. Also, when her hair was long I found that I always put the topnot in too tight and it was pulling on her eyes. Now I don't have that problem. |
I let it grow..i didn;t even think it looked cleaner when the groomer shaved it:( I think it is easier to maintain just by letting it grow longer too... |
Speaking of letting the hair grow between the eyes so it can be pulled up into a topknot, while that hair is growing and poking out in all different directions, do you think it affects their vision. I am always pushing Beau's over or down or up, but it falls right back down directly in his line of vision. |
