Am I crazy!? :) Dog trainings I probably won't be getting a yorkie until May-June. Oh my goodness.. I don't know how I am being so patient... I have been wanting a yorkie since last August. I am patient, but I don't have any days that I don't talk about wanting a yorkie. I think my bf is more patient than I am... for listening to me talking about same things over and over and over. Same old same old.. I guess I don't need to repeat since everyone knows.. Anyway..today I, "Michiko" searched for dog training classes locally!! Woohoo I found two places that offer different types of trainings. Puppy, Beginners, Advanced Beginners, Rally, and Competition Obedience.... I am already excited... I might ask them to see if I can come observe once before I even get a dog. They are Akc members I think.. I got the info from akc site. I see my colleagues with dogs struggling with their dogs.. so I will definitely have class information ready.. :) I am already.. excited.. p.s. I found a new relaxation technique... Taking a bath and read yorkshire terrier magazine (japanese).. There are a lot of pictures with different yorkie hair-cut.. very relaxing.! |
im right their with you right now. i have to wait until summer to get mine! i wish i had some type of technique! i swear im going CRAZY! : |
It doesn't seem like there is any yorkshire terrier club in MA.. but.. at least there are some training club in my area... so I am happy with that!. |
That's so neat. I'm always excited when other people get into training. Loki has done 4 different classes and I think next we will do Canine Good Citizen! It's SO much fun! We started it because we knew how important puppy class was but we enjoyed it so much that we continued. The trainer does all of that stuff, but Loki's attention span is very short so he can't stay long, which means he wouldn't do well in obedience trials. He's also not good off leash and has LP so no agility. But it's still just so much fun. People are always suprised when he does his tricks because they aren't used to little dogs being trained. It's cool! I'm so excited for you and I know how you feel because I waited my whole life to get Loki. |
I don't think that it's crazy at all to go and visit the class even before you get the dog! You want to make sure they use positive methods! No correction training - like leash pops, etc. |
:) I don't think you're crazy. I tell people all the time "take your time", "do your homework", and "and when the time is right it will happen". Good Luck |
You're not crazy at all. I'm getting my boston this weekend and my yorkie in the next few weeks and for months all I've been doing is reading about the breeds, the best ways to train them and everything else. I think I know every training method out there! I hope it just means that we'll be good mommies:) |
Yes Michiko....you are crazy....welcome to the loony bin. |

I know...the waiting is stressful....everytime you see one on TV...or on the street...its weird...its like wanting a "baby"! I was actually "crying" the other day..my partner was like...Come on! (Although...she DID take me out to dinner that night...chuckling) |

And I think it is a great idea to go to the classes before you get a dog. Then you can see what they do, and if you have any questions you will be ready. I wish I had been so prepared the first time I took a dog to Obedience Class! |
I love dog training!!! Can you tell by my user name? Teddy & Teddy both train in obedience, agility, and flyball. Teddy competes in agility and flyball. He will compete in AKC obedience soon as soon as I figure out how to heel properly with him. :D Tiny rather do his therapy work than compete. I guess to each their own. BTW, I also like reading yorkie magazines. I have a couple in Japanese. They were present from a friend who happens to be Japanese. Can't read it but love the pictures. |
I am a bit worried.. if I could train a dog.. but I can do it.. I can do it!! I am very excited about it already.. The litter won't be ready until spring.. so.. I am picking a name too :) YT is a great place to ask for advice too... people are always around.. so I am not feeling alone :) I bet my yorkie will be the smartest and cutest :D There is a Japanese magazine/book I got called "I  yorkie". I just love it. I love the pictures. Japanese are wicked smart... how to entertain people!! They even have a dog with Rock N Roll hair cut.. it is pretty funny. I wish I can show it to you here but.. copyright :D |
