Yorkie love Let me begin: friend has two female yorkies and one male sheltie. She can put either Yorkie with sheltie and all is fine. Can not put the 2 yorkies together. 3 yr old yorkie doesn't like 1.5 yr old. All are spayed/neutered Friend and dogs lived with father who passed away 2 weeks ago. Friend bought new toy and now older dog is treating it like her baby. Gets very aggressive if someone tries to take it from her and will even bite at the hand. Friend would like to know how to handle it. Does she let Yorkie keep the toy as her baby, or take it from her. It breaks her heart thinking the Yorkie is missing father so much that she needs a "baby". What should she do? |
Wow, I'm sorry your friend and her doggies are going through this...Maybe some other members will have more advice for you. I just want to say welcome to YorkieTalk! |
Sounds like she just needs time to adjust to the new situation..I would let her keep the toy as it sound like she doesn't need any more stress..By taking it away from her. Dog react to stress in different ways. She may wet the floor or fight with the other ones...Just give her time and let her work things out...Hope all works out for your friend . |
Hello and welcome to Yorkie Talk. I'm not a pro dog trainer but it seems that it would be ok letting her keep the toy. She is grieving and under a great deal of stress. Patience, praise, extra hugs, and attention might help. |
