Biewer Yorkie??? I was looking at all of the cute puppy pics in the nursery and notcied some with white on them and they were referenced and "Biewer(?)" yorkies? What exactly is this? Are they "purebred" with a deviation from the color standard or are they mixed with another breed? Thanks |

So how is it different? Is this a new breed? Do kennel clubs recognize? IS there a plance I can go to see an adult picture of the dog? I'm just very curious since I've never heard of them. |
I sent you a private message. |
The Biewer Yorkshire Terrier originated in Germany at the hand of a breeder named Biewer in 1984. Two standard colored yorkshire terriers produced a beatiful piebald, tri-colored puppy. The Yorkshire terrier was developed by mixing various other terriers and possibly the maltese and so these recessive genes come to the surface every once in a while. Instaed of eliminating thme from his lines, Mr. Biewer decided to breed "FOR" the beautiful color variation and the Biewer Yorkshire was recognized as it's own breed in Germany in the 1980s. The standard is the same as for the Yorkshire Terrier with the exception of color. I found this site to be full of good info on the Biewer. A google search will bring up a lot of good info to read. http://www.geocities.com/class_act_k...isabiewer.html |

Yes, it has been recognized as it's own breed and this started in Germany as I mentioned. It has yet to be recognized by the AKC as a separate breed however, for whatever that is worth...I am not one to pay great attention to registries and all as I am not a breeder for a lot or reasons. For someone wanting to know whether they are getting a true Biewer Yrokshire Terrier, I found this quote from the same site interesting: How can I tell if I am getting a TRUE Biewer? ALL Biewers regardless of whether bred in the United States, Germany, Argentina or Hungary will trace back to Darling von Friedheck and Fru-Fru von Friedheck . If they do not then they are not Biewers. Does this settle any disagreement? |

I am suprised you did not see the threads in the breeder section- you may even want to do a search and see what other threads there are-- |
Yea, there are a bunch of threads on Biewers in the breeder section. Biewers are Yorkies btw, they came from two black and tan yorkies with the pie bald gene. I think! |
