problem lexi is not eating unless i hand feed her... its all my fault and i know it, now i need some advise please... i dont want to leave the house in the morning without her eating...all she wants is treats... i give her chicken, steak , liver, i know i really screwed this up.. but i do give her dry food too, of course i hand feed it to her, she thinks its treat.. is is ok to leave the food down and eventually she will eat on her own? i dont want her to starve |
Yes , it is ok . If she is healthy , she will never starve herself . I can assure you that they are extremely good comedians . Recently , Heidi try this trick on me , she never let herself starve . |
and i also feel she is heavy. i mean she has alot of meat around that belly area.. i would love for her to be slim... shes like a little ball |
How big is Lexi? I would say that she'll eat when she's hungry, but you definitely want to be careful because of hypoglycemia. Can you mix some wet food in with some dry and leave it? She might think the wet is more appetizing than just dry. You could eventually wean her off the wet food if that works. |
i would say shes about 8 lbs believe it or not.. i do mix wet with dry all the time.. i know the dry is the better one for her but she wont eat it alone.. she wont even eat her wet dog food.. she want our food and hand fed. |
I have tried those sauces that you can buy and put those on at times for a change . Maybe she would go for that. They come in 3 or 4 flavours. |
I also put just 1/4 cup of food down and leave it all day. Then for the other I am bad she has some of mine for her supper, But I still always have her own down for her to eat. |
She has you very well trained....LOL! You don't need to worry much about hypoglycemia at that size. She will not starve herself and really should be on dry kibble to preserve her teeth. The extra weight she's carrying will put a strain on her joints. A dab of molasses smeared on the bottom of the bowl is a good trick to get them going for the dry stuff alone...tough love is the only way to break her of the bad habit. best of luck |
