Question about treats? What treats do you give and how often. Everytime? Every other? Do you reward with a belly rub and a "good boy" That never ends... After my recent issue with my new shag rug I have finally got it under control. I got rid of that one and got a different type of rug. Flat and not as soft. He has not pee'd on it once. However, he is getting over loaded with treat for going on the wee wee pad everytime. I break them in half most of the time because he is forever going potty. But now I feel that he is not eating as much of his food because he is getting so much treats in a day. He eats like a cat and will just pick. He "picks" 3 times a day so I don't mind but now he seems to be eating less when he does. Should I not give him so many treats or is there a certain treat I can give him. |
my vote is for Cheerios!! :D Healthy and you get your moneys worth in a box!! and my girls love them. |
I used Cheerios also, especially when training, since you are giving them alot,, But eventually skip treats, so that they don't know when to expect them,,and I did the " High pitched.. Oh that's a good boy,, ew and ah " Also,, I don't know what it is about throw rugs.. but they always pick those to GO on.. I don't think it matters what kind.... :( |
I trained Gracie to potty on the pads using treats, then I had to get her out of wanting a treat every time she went. I tried just over praising her with a high pitched voice and lots of love but she is just too smart. She would walk right up to the treat jar and tap on it with her paws, like she was playing the drums, untill I gave her one. I have always given her a little piece of Beggin Strips, Bacon & Cheese flavor. Only once a day, if she has been a good girl. She still plays the drums on the floor when she sees me getting her a treat! :) |
I buy those soft bones for Cassie and I break them into tiny pieces . I get about 10 to eaach bone,I put them in a little pill bottle and every time she deserves a treat she gets one or two pieces . This works like a charm. Use to give all the time when she peed on pad now I give her lots of praise and get her treats when we go upstairs and she has done it on pad up there. In other words as they say pick your times. |
I use Cheerio's too (original and HoneyNut). I also use the PupCorn treats (in a round tub). They dissolve easy and my vet liked those. They come in several flavors (like cheese, peanut butter, etc). They are easy to break into smaller pieces for training or to leave intact for a treat! |
I make my own treats. |

Cheerios work great! Someone here told me about just giving them Cheerios, and they're awesome :) Miko has never liked doggie treats for some crazy reason. When we trained him to go potty, we trained him by just saying good boy in a happy, higher-pitched voice and giving him belly rubs. He responded much better to that than treats. Ever since I heard about the Cheerios though, I give him a couple when he does tricks or after grooming him. He actually loves them :) |

Ok looks like I am going to try cherrios! But stupid question... how much do you give your pup? He gets frosted flakes with his breakfast but I feel like that is to much sugar all the time. And he is being such a good boy by NOT going on my rug I dont want to break that yet by just praising him. I just feel like he is getting to filled up on treats to where he is not eating his food. |
well for my two dogs i use these ones from the petco counter. you pay like 3 bucks for a pound of treats that you get to choose. I choose these little like gingerbread man that are really small. maybe i'll try cheerios too! |
I use very small pieces of cheese my two will do anything for a piece of cheese :D Sharon,Charley & Melody xx |
