Babies still need their Mommy at that age!! That's insane!

I didnt say it was ideal to let a pup go at 6 weeks old,I said that is how things are done in many many places and by many breeders.In my opinion,a pup is more than ready at 6/8 weeks old,and I think the way I do because that is what Im used to.
I got both of my girls very young too and they were/are fine,and every one else here gets their pups at that age too,so it cant be that dangerous and terrible when its being done in most of europe and other parts of the world.
I for one prefer them to be younger when they come and as I said,at 8 weeks old they are more than ready to do so.
This is one of those subjects where no body (breeders) should be judged because each one does what works better for them and their dogs.Its not always about selling the pups early because they get more money,its about common sense..when a pup is ready,its ready..plain and simple.And as for wanting them to go to jail etc...Thats just exagerating things:rolleyes: If it were so bad for the pup to go at such a young age,it wouldent be done,yet is is,and in ALOT of countries.I love yorkies,thats why I have 2 and Im waiting for my male,but I dont see as many red flags as some people do...some breeders do things differently thats all.

And if it were good for them, there wouldn't be laws against letting them go early here.
To be perfectly honest, there are alot of things in Europe that are different here...laws such as docking tails...comparing the two are like apples and oranges. The two societies and their views on things are different--it cannot be assumed that what works for one works for the other.

My point exactly! A public forum has people from all over the world as members which is why generalizing everything doesnt work.Whilst you think that a breeder who lets his pups go at 6/8 weeks is a BIG red flag,others may think "so? whats so bad about that?".

Here, there is a big problem with puppy mills and people cutting corners to make a quick profit (to be nice about it). The well being of our furry little friends here is not always what is the breeders primary focus. Does Spain/Europe have this sort of problem too?

And for the same reason it is unfair to condemn someone so aggressively for thinking that it might be better for the socialization of the pup to be let go earlier.

Please let me be clear that from what I have read and the research I have done, especially lately, the puppy learns so much from the mommy from 8- 12 weeks that I would prefer any puppy of mine staying with his mother, but I would not label someone a "bad breeder" because they do not share my opinion as long as they are doing what THEY feel is in the best interests of the puppy.

I don't think early s/n is done by some breeders because it is in the best interests of the puppy...I think it is done to protect their hard work in developing their lines. Do I think those who practice this are "bad breeders"? No. In fact some of my favorite breeders practice this and we have simply agreed to respect the other's opinion and agree to disagree.

Same thing with tail docking....does anyone think it is in the best interestsof the puppy to dock it's tail??? I doubt it, but do I label any breeder who does it a "bad breeder" because they do it to be consistent with the "breed standard" in this country? No. They simply feel that it is something they have to do for "looks".

Sorry, but to me, this sounds like a contradiction in itself. :confused: You've done research and feel it is of utmost importance for them to be with the mother at this time, yet at the same time you feel it's OK for the breeder to let them go early if they say it's OK. So, which one is it, which is your opinion? I reallly don't see how in this matter you can ride both sides of the fence here. :confused: To say you've done the reasearch and A is best, but then to turn around and say that B is acceptable? Really, I don't understand--this seems double sided to me.

Mallorca is a very small Island outside spain and its quite hard to get a pure bred dog here.We get ALOT of mixed breeds and do have a shelter etc,but gladly we dont have puppymills AT ALL so that isnt an issue here.I cant say the same for Spain because I honestly dont know.
Here,we have very few actual breeders,I only know of 3 (one is a show breeder and doesnt sell his pups until he can see they he cant use them him self) and they dont always have pups avalable (obviously) so most people turn to hobby breeders which are more popular.Here this just means someone who has bred their own pet and in my experience they are more trustwrthy because you can see how the pups and parents live,how they are treated etc.From these we can get purebred pups for a cheaper price,but there arent many of these either.No matter which kind of breeder you choose here,the rules are basicly the same,they all go home at the same age:)

I believe SOCALS point was there are two sides to every coin and not everyone has the same opinions and one person's opinion does not mean another person's is wrong.

Kim, it is very obvious from past conversations that you and I do not see eye to eye on what we consider a 'bad breeder' to be...or what we even consider a 'breeder' to be period for that matter. This is no different. This is my opinion and from the looks of it, that of several others as well. Some agree, some don't. We all have different opinions of what a bad a good breeder is, I was just stating mine.

Wow Gina, sounds like with no puppymill problem you are lucky not to ever have to deal with that headache....hmmm...maybe I should move to Spain :rolleyes:

Over here in the Uk pups usually go at 8 weeks old.
I would never touch any breeder who let's them go any earlier :mad:
They need their mum at that tender age and also they are learning so much from their litter mates :)

Even I am dying to get a yorkie.. I would never want to get a 5-6weeks old yorkie... I have been waiting for almost 6 months.. I would definitely wait for 6 more weeks.. No.. I take my words back. I wouldn't get a yorkie from a breeder who wants to let go her/his puppies so early..

Unfortuantely, some people are that ignorant. I hate it for the pups. They learn so much from being with their mother and littermates those last 6-12 weeks. :( Poor babies! At least now you know who to look out for when you want another baby!
