When your baby was spayed/neutered.... ...did you have to put them in a cone collar? My poor little Biscuit looks like a lamp shade. He is pretty miserable, but with it off he licks himself. Should i be worried about infection enough to make him wear it? He just got neutered yesterday.... Should I do it for a few days? Did your babies lick themselves alot? |
I recently had both my boys neutered 2 weeks ago.. and my vet told me if I think they are licking more than normal (what's normal) she said I would have to have them come in to get a collar, the first day the did lick but I would pick them up love on them just kinda distracted them, offer them a treat, I just kept them busy and they did pretty good just keep him within eye range and use your own discretion with the collar... Oh she also gave me pain management for them which I had asked for thinking if they didn't have any pain they might not lick?? |
Chewy was just fixed last week and he did not wear that e-collar for long. It was done on Friday and kept on all thru the night and into Saturday. By about 5 o'clock it was done with. Chewy would stand for it no longer! He licked a bit but they can be distracted with a toy or a treat. I did, though, put it back on him for a couple of days only when I was going out and Chewy would be alone. Just in case. |
1 Attachment(s) Thanks you guys, i feel alot better knowing that, Bisco is so miserable with it! |
AAAWWW Poor little Biscuit! You can probably take that off him tomorrow! Let us know how it goes :p |
Ahhh...poor little guy! He DOES look miserable! One suggestion would be to buy a newborn onesie, cut a hole for the tail and let him wear that. He can't lick his stitches with that on and it's also a lot more comfy than that lampshade! That's what I did when Maddie was spayed. They look so cute in them too! Just remember to unsnap the crotch when they go outside to go potty! Hope Biscuit is better soon! Kisses from Maddie! |

So sorry, that is hilarious! Always had a hard time describing what that looks like and you hit the nail on the head! Scooby didn't get a cone collar, for as much as I paid.....I should have received one! |
i got an ecollar but it wasn't long enough to extend beyond his nose so that he can't reach over and lick himself. so i taped cardboard onto the collar to extend it. it was quite ghetto fabulous. more ghetto than fabulous. he kept chewing up the cardboard. for the past week, i've been switching between keeping an eye on him, using the ecollar, and using a onesies. his stitches look like a scab right now. i'm waiting for the scab to flake off before i stop using either the ecollar or onesies completely. |

This is really a great idea Connie!! I would imagine that a onesie would be a lot more tolerable to the fur babies then a "lamp shade". |
Neither one of my dogs licked when they were spayed/neutered but if they did I would have used a onsie. I had to use one of those cone things when my dog was getting medicine for an area he chewed on his back to keep him from licking it and it was awful. |
Imo those silly cone collars are so cruel...I mean after surgery when they are already hurting to put that thing on is like adding insult to injury. Much better to use a belly band or a onesie...much more humane. |
