Back legs smaller than front?? This is a weird question (I know), but it seems to me that Tess' back legs and paws are quite a bit smaller than her front. Is this normal for Yorkies? It doesn't seem to hinder her in any way as she can run a blue streak across the living room chasing my daughter. I was just curious if this is a physical quality of the breed or if she is just not developing correctly. I'm going to the vet today and I'll ask him, but I just thought I would get ya'lls input. Thanks!!! Tess' Mommy |
Stomper's back legs seem smaller too! Funny that you say that. Let me know what your vet says to you! |
hm hershey's front legs seemed shorter to me than her back.. |
Beau's front legs are shorter than his back (or seem to be). Now I'm curious to know what the vet says. |
backline The back legs should be at equal length as the front. An equal leg is what gives them the perfect back line... For example; when a show dog is "stacked" you notice how straight their backline. Yorkshire Terrier AKC Standard . Well proportioned and very compact. The back is rather short, the back line level, with height at shoulder the same as at the rump. The dog’s high head carriage and confidential manner should give the appearance of vigor and self – importance. TAIL-docked to a medium length and carried slightly higher than the level of the back. Forelegs-should be straight, elbows neither in nor out. Hindlegs-straight when viewed from behind, but stifles are moderately bent when viewed from the sides. Feet-are round with black toenails. Dewclaws, if any, are generally removed from the hind legs. Dewclaws on the forelegs may be removed. hope this helps |
I'm not talking about the height of the leg, but more the diameter. Tess' back legs are noticably smaller than her front legs. More like comparing an 8 week old puppy's back legs to a 12 week old puppy's front legs. The vet said that sometimes different body parts on a puppy will develop at different times. Sometimes the ears will seem to grow one week and then the legs, etc, etc. She can run like the wind and has no trouble standing or anything so he said not to worry. I was just wondering if this was a trait of Yorkies or just mine! :D Thanks for the input. She is far from a show dog, but she wins "Best of Show" in my heart. I love her to death, although it bothers me that she is WAY more excited to see my kids or anyone else than me. Everyone tells me it's because she's with me all the time and doesn't see them very much. Anyhooooo..... thanks for the input!!! Tess' Mommy |
