To have or not to have pet insurance? I see a lot of these puppies going to the vet. I have seriously considered Pet Insurance...but don't really know what it covers and if it is worth it. Does it work like our insurance with copay and such. I am not really sure how it works. IF you do have pet insurance which companies are best? I see a ton on the internet. Thanks :) |
Look up - www.petinsurance.com that's VPI... i don't have it but I know a few people on here have it...on that website you can find the info. crystal |
I have VPI. I pay 19.00 a month for the Premier Policy. I am going to be filing my first claim for Cali this week. She was in ER vet twice this week and racked up $1,000.00 in expenses. The first visit I don't think they will cover which was for possible hypoglcemia or Liver Shunt which aren't covered. The one for yesterday was 377.00 and they put a diagnosis of vomiting and diahrrea so I'm hoping to get some of that back. I'll post what I find out. I think with these small dogs it's a good idea to have the insurance. |
I was looking at the VPI insurance today & was debating on whether or not to get it. It said it would be like $27 a month for the superior (I think) which is the one that covers the most stuff along w/ vac's. Let us know how the claim goes. |
I look at pet insurance this way...If you have a small fortune than don't bother with pet insurance. If not than protect yourself from going in debt. I have VPI for Rocky & Daisy and I'm very happy with this provider. Our vet has us pay and then I provide VPI the the statement to be reimbursed. Also be aware if your puppy is AKC registered then he is insured I think free for 3 months. You can confirm this: http://www.akcpethealthcare.com/BHIA/ You click the Activate link and it promps you for dogs registration number. After your trial period you have the option to stay on for a specific price or you can go find your own plan. Best of luck, |
I would suggest getting insurance if you are not financial stable. I don't have money coming out of my ears (yet!!) so I have insurance incase anything comes up. I too have the 19.00/month plan which doesn not cover annual shot and all that but it wasn't worth it to me. It made more sense for me to just get the plan for emergencies. So far I have made two claims and saved money!! It's been totally worth it for me. The deductable it $50. Good luck |
We have used Petsmart and their insurance for years now. It has saved us a fortune. Small dogs seem to generate more trips to the vet.... |
