Revolution vs Frontline My vet is a big fan of Revolution. My older girl (2) started out on it as a puppy and at about a year I changed her to Frontline and she does Interceptor for heart worms. The Revolution is suppose to be for heartworms also. It is a drop on the shoulders behind the neck application like Frontline. It kinda made me nervous because I was afraid that it might not be as effective for the heartworms as the interceptor would be. He has already given Mia (12 weeks) her first free application of the Revolution. Has anyone had any experience with the Revolution? He says that it is suppose to be very effective for fleas, ticks, and heartworms. Thanks, Telea Zoe' and Mia :aimeeyork |
Yeah, I have been using Revolution on Jake for almost a year now. Haven't had any problems (knock wood) :) |
I have used revolution the whole time on my guy, about 3yrs or so, frontline in considered a insecticide and revolution is a drug plus it covers mange, tick, fleas, hworm, and ear mites. someplaces you have to have a prescription for it. also revolution is much more water proof as far as shampooing than the others. |
I've been using Revolution for some time now with no problems. My mom, however, used Frontline on her Shih Tzupoo (sp) and it made him have seizures. He is about 15lbs... |

We use the revolution on our mia with no problems ... :aimeeyork |
Vet switched Toto to Revolution & this is our first month to use it ... so far, so good! ;) |
I used Revolution for years and LOVED it - untill we had a tick problem! For some reason, my boys kept getting ticks on them, and brought them into the house - YUCK! Revolution was so kind in refunding all the money for both dogs for the past year and the supply I still had left. I just sent in my vet reciept stating how much I bought. (BTW - someone asked, no you do not do a heartworm pill with the Revolution) Now we're back to Frontline and heartworm. I really wish we could go back (the revolution ws easier), but for some reason it just didn't work for my boys. |
My vet is also a fan of Revolution. I started my Aussie off on it and then I listened to another animal freak and she had me convinced that it wasn't as effective as using a seperate heartworm medication and Frontline. I asked my vet and since I seemed so hesitant and inquisitive he said he was going to switch us off the Revolution and try the other and then let me make the decision. I never had a problem with the Revolution. I was afraid that if I forgot to put it on then we would be without heartworm prevention. I have given him his pill regularly so far. It does seem to cost the same for either way. Who knows, I might switch back. |
bunjee's on revolution right now and so far so good. he's mostly an inside dog anyways. one major difference between frontline plus and revolution is that revolution only protects against one type of tick: american dog tick, while frontline plus protects against 4 species of ticks: the deer tick, the lone star tick, the american dog tick, and the brown dog tick. so if your dog is outside a lot or if know your area has a tick problem, it's probably best to get frontline plus. 2-4me your tick problem may be because of the species. maybe your boys got deer ticks and revolution doesn't protect against those. |
I used revolution in the past but now use Frontline and Interceptor. |
Some very dear friends of mine used frontline on their Shih tzu when he was about 2 years and he started having violent seizures. They never stopped and could not be controlled by drugs. He finally after many tears and money had to be put to sleep. It was all very sad. He was a super healthy dog to begin with. I have used revolutin with no problems |

THANK YOU! That makes perfect sense. |
I use Revolution because it's so much easier...did you know it also keeps them from getting ear mites? That Rocks! I have not had any problems with ticks, even though we do have deer ticks around here. Also, getting the interceptor down Pippa once a month was a real fun experience: 1. hide interceptor in cheese 2. convince Pippa it's a yummy treat-which she falls for 3. watch her eat the cheese and spit out the interceptor 4. pick up the interceptor and try the cheese trick again with smaller piece of cheese 5. she eats the cheese and spits out the interceptor 6. pick up the interceptor and small, but strong wiggly dog and force it into the back of her throat and hold her muzzle until it's down 7. Mad, pouty Pippa for at least an hour Revolution is so much easier.... |
It makes me feel better to know there are a lot out there that have had success with the Revolution. It is my understanding that if they use the Revolution they are not suppose to use the interceptor for the heartworms also. When my vet switched Zoe' he had me wait until the application of Revolution had been on for the full month, then we started the frontline and interceptor. I think we will give this a try on the new baby, he tests annually for heartworms as a precaution. She had her second dose on Saturday with her 12 week booster shots (it was a free dose), I think he forgot that he had already done her free dose the last visit. Oh well, we just got an added bonus. Thanks for all the responses. Telea Zoe' and Mia :) |
