Does anyone's Yorkie go crazy in the car? My little baby goes nuts in the car. I took her to the vet yesterday and the ride there was murder. If I slow down she barks, turn on the blinker she barks. She wines the entire time and goes nuts! She use to be so good in the car. I have tried just letting her sit in the front seat, putting her in a carrier and also just holding her, she still flips out. I can't take her anywhere anymore and I dread it when I have to. When we had to evacuate for Katrina I had to give her tranqulizers and she still flipped out the whole 10 hour drive. By the time we got to the hotel she was so wiped out that she slept for the longest time. She is on "puppy prozac" and has been for a year now, you think that would help during car rides, but it does not! She seems to be scared that I am going to leave her in the car by herself (I never have). Any advice or stories to share would be helpful. |
Schatzie at times gets nervous riding. The only time she's a happy girl is when we are in the truck, because she knows we are heading out camping. She LOVES to camp. Now Ransom, oh my he's the perfect angel in the car. (not trying to brag) He just lays in his bed and either sleeps, plays, chews on a chewy, or sits there and stares at me. I couldn't ask for a better vehicle companion. :p |
lexi drives me nuts in the car.. |
Out of 10 Yorkies, I have a neutered male"Bogie" that has like panic attacks in the car. He does his head back & forth, like Stevie Wonder, We have to give him doggie valium any time we take him on a trip. I don't like giving drugs to him, so we try not to take him. The rest are ready to go anytime and love riding in the car. :yorkiesar |
Ella (all four pounds of her) has to sit on the center cousel. it's annoying because her body weight can't even hold her down when i make a quick stop. she used to try to jump on my back and sit on my shoulder like a parrot so she could look outside. gotta love her! |
Have you thought of crating while driving. It might make driving a bit easier and safer for everyone. And or maybe their just expressing their opinions on all the other drivers - Road Rage... lol. It affects people... :p |
Jake drives me crazy in the car he is all over the place. If we have to get on the express way he climbs under the seat and will not come out until we are driving under 25 or 30 MPH. Then he is all over the place again. :aimeeyork |
Kobe does fine if we just drive around town slowly and let him put his little head out the window. But, when I take him to the groomers or the vet (it is a 30 minute drive) he hates it. I cannot feed him before or he will throw up. He shakes and gets really wet around the mouth. I think he actually has a panic attack. But once we are on the way home he is much calmer and lays down. He just received a car seat for Christmas and I am anxious to see if it helps any. He has a haircut on Friday so that will be the test. |

My two girls are perfect in the car. It's a 3 hour drive to my Bf and my hometown to visit family. Ruby and Bella will curl up on my lap together and sleep the whole way there (as soon as they get in the car they sleep and they have to be on my lap). I use to have problems with Bella and car sickness but i don't feed her for about 2 hours before we leave and she has seemed to grown out of it. |
I am reading this and laughing because ava is such a bad girl in the car. she wants to be practically outside of the window . i also like how ella sits on your shoulder ellabean, i sometimes think ava is a parrot because she sits on our shoulders too! |
